It is Monday, October 5th.

Today it's a live episode coming from the Bloomberg Screentime Conference in Hollywood last Thursday. If you're not familiar, that's Lucas Shaw's big event. They did a really nice job with it again. The lineup was a who's who of people in the town universe. You can go to the Bloomberg feeds to watch some of it. Congrats to Lucas and the Bloomberg team, especially on the food. I had some great tacos. As for our part, we did the Hollywood Stock Exchange. Who or what will we buy low, sell high or maybe even hold? Some great picks this year and questions from the audience. Let's get right to it. The 2026 Hollywood Stock Exchange live from Screentime. From The Ringer and Puck, I'm Matt Belloni and this is The Town.

Thank you everyone. Thanks for coming. This is what, our third year doing this?

Lucas Shaw (2:02)

Fourth.

Matt Belloni (2:02)

Fourth year. We've done it every year.

Lucas Shaw (2:04)

Yeah.

Matt Belloni (2:04)

I dressed down this year.

Lucas Shaw (2:05)

You started the podcast when? 22 or 23?

Matt Belloni (2:09)

22

Lucas Shaw (2:09)

So your pod is a year older than this event?

Matt Belloni (2:11)

Yes. I dressed down this year. I felt like his corporate lawyer uncle last year.

Lucas Shaw (2:18)

I've been called a referee on the Internet.

Matt Belloni (2:20)

That's okay. We will not be revisiting our picks from last year. We're going to do some buys and some sells again this year. If you recall from previous years, we picked things that we would buy within the Hollywood entertainment ecosystem, things that we would sell. The goal, of course, is you buy low and you sell high. So it could be some big names that we're selling or it could be some people who are down low that we're buying.

Lucas Shaw (2:48)

Matt has not followed the rules of this game the last couple of years, such as last year when he picked Josh Demaro buying low, even though Josh was the consensus next CEO of Disney.

SPEAKER_4 (2:58)

Yes, I've learned the rules.

Matt Belloni (3:00)

I've since learned the rules. I've gone to basic business school. And although last year you bought Ed Sheeran, so I don't think you should be talking.

Lucas Shaw (3:10)

It was a bad one.

Matt Belloni (3:12)

And you also bought The Rock.

Lucas Shaw (3:14)

I would double down on that.

Matt Belloni (3:15)

We're not going to get ahead of ourselves. Really, after two bombs in a row?

All right, we'll get into this. We'll get into this. All right, so three of each, maybe four if we have time, but I doubt we will. I'm going to give you the first. Would you like to start with a buy or a sell?

Lucas Shaw (3:29)

I'll start with a sell because I think sells are more fun, even though I have more buys. Okay.

I am selling high on the World Cup.

Who? The World Cup. Oh, the World Cup.

Matt Belloni (3:41)

I think they said Adam World Cup.

Lucas Shaw (3:42)

No, the most famous sporting event in the world.

Matt Belloni (3:44)

Yes, why?

Lucas Shaw (3:45)

Because.

Matt Belloni (3:46)

Oh, the time change.

Lucas Shaw (3:47)

Yes, there is, this year's World Cup was so popular in the US. I'm not like selling the World Cup as a concept. I'm not an idiot. It's the most popular sporting event in the world, but this year's World Cup did so well that they are going to use that to get a crazy price increase for the next two World Cups.
