The episode opened with Anthropic's new report, How Employment Is Changing at Anthropic. The company revealed that junior technical hires declined from 25% of hiring in 2025 to just 9% in 2026, while AI agents now perform roughly six hours of work for every hour of human work.

Hey, everybody, what's going on? It's The Daily AI Show. It is 10 a.m. on the East Coast and 7 a.m. on the Pacific, the West Coast. And today is October 19, 2026 This is episode 836 of The Daily AI Show, doing this well over three years now, and steadily climbing to 900 and even 1000 episodes, which will come out. I think the thousandth episode will be in early June of next year. So we do this five days a week. We have been doing this five days a week. We have not taken one off since we started. It's come close where we've had one host for maybe a part of a show, but never a whole show. So we've managed to have two people here through the holidays, through hurricanes, through all the other events over the last couple of years. So we intended to keep doing that. So if this is your first time finding us, great, welcome. Glad you're here, but we're here. We're here five days a week, so you can come back and keep hanging out with us if you like what we're doing. You can also join us live by coming over to YouTube and being part of the chat. You can be a part of our community. You can sign up for a newsletter. There's all sorts of great ways to be part of what we're doing here, because really this is about the community. Yes, there's a couple of co-hosts that you'll see day in and day out like myself and Andy and Beth today, and whoever else rolls through the door. But this really is about the community chat. We started this show basically, and I think of it as a morning show. It's a morning talk show more than it's a podcast, truthfully. You'll notice we don't really have guests on the show. It's just about coming in and having conversations about AI. It's about looking at what's going on in the news, what's going on in the world, and then just put in our thinking hats on and go, hey, we want to make a hedge bet that it's going this way or that way. We'll agree and disagree along the way.
The additional co-host is our live chat, the folks that show up in our community, because we absolutely bring your guys' thoughts and opinions directly into the conversation.
In one way or another, it's like a morning talk show, but it's a big community chat about AI. Because we do this five days a week, well, we have a really good finger on the pulse of AI, at least we think we do, because you can go back to on our website and search pretty much anything.
I highly recommend you go in to do that if you haven't tried that yet. Andy, you were mentioning last week, I think it was Gemini 2.5 and you were making a claim. You're like, I know I've talked about 2.5. I was testing the website the other day, honestly, just to make sure it was still doing what it was supposed to be doing daily. That was in my brain and I typed in 2.5 and all the different episodes, episode 400 and blah, blah, blah came up and episode this or whatever, and there was a bunch of Andy clips along the way of you and others talking about it. It's a great resource. It's a free resource. So go check that out on the website. If you have to go check out our website anyway, it's actually really well done right now after maybe a few too many years of putting it on the back burner. It actually looks really good. I had been back over to it since we built it and I was like, oh, I still like this website. I think it came out all right. OK, that's all the stuff to get us started. Beth, Andy haven't said anything yet, but it's always nice on a Monday to kind of reset the room as we used to say on.
Oh, jeez. Clubhouse. Thank you, Clubhouse. Clipboard was what was in my head. Thank you for coming in there. I was like, on clipboard? I'm just like, yeah, just no.
Clubhouse, yes.
Beth Lyons (3:24)
How long have we been doing this show together, right? It's like, oh, wow.
Brian Maucere (3:29)
We wear similar shirts and you finish my sentences.
Sandwiches, that's what I was going to say. That's a that's a frozen reference for anybody as kids. Anyway, all right, listen, we already have some folks in the channel, Jeff and Cisco and others. Thanks guys for being here. But Andy and Beth, how are you all doing? Thanks for holding out the fort with others, such as this character Karl on Thursday and Friday. Was out two days for different meetings and such. So as always, I feel a little more disconnected today from the show that I typically do. Because in my brain, you know, the last time I was on was forever ago, last Wednesday. Oh my goodness, you know, so many days. So I don't, you know, I obviously I edit the show. So I kind of see what you guys are talking about. And we just did the newsletter on Sunday.
