We're a little more pointed in the portfolios because there's some areas that have done pretty darn well, and there's others that we still think have a lot of room to go.
Amber Kanwar (0:11)
He rode the wave of higher energy prices. Now David Szybunka of Canoe Financial says, it's time to get selective and look at other hated parts of the energy trade.
David Szybunka (0:19)
Three stages of an energy cycle, disbelief, optimism, parabolic euphoria. We were in the later stages of that disbelief.
Amber Kanwar (0:26)
People are screaming at us saying, you didn't talk about Tourmaline, you didn't talk about Athabasca. We're going to do that right now.
David Szybunka (0:32)
Oh my god.
I think they've never been this vulnerable. Right now. Two of them. People have continued to be negative Canada. The stocks are actually outperforming. You can feel the positivity towards Canada. Just because there's more people at the party, doesn't mean you have to get all negative.
Amber Kanwar (0:47)
The most commonly asked question that we got is about Abaxx Technologies. Are you still sticking with this one David? People love to talk about your hair.
David Szybunka (0:56)
Your hair is better than mine, so the comments are going to come to you.
Amber Kanwar (1:00)
You've got the effortless look.

Hey, everybody. Welcome to a brand new episode of In the Money with Amber Kanwar. In this episode, we are dialed into the energy sector. The price continues to fluctuate based on whatever is going on with the Strait of Hormuz. But away from that, David Szybunka says this is a must-own sector for the next 10 years, but not a blanket ownership. The last five have been great for energy investors. So now he says it's time to get selective. He lays out what he's trimming, the hated sectors that he's adding. And yes, he talks about Tourmaline, which I think after today, I will be a shareholder in Tourmaline. So you got to stay tuned for the full episode. Listen all the way through because you'll have to find out what he said. To finally convince me. I don't know how many guests come on and say, bye Tourmaline. I still never did it, but I think I might after speaking to David. And just a reminder, we've got our merch store live. You can buy all of our sweet, sweet swag. EBITDA sweatshirt, market cap cap, this fun liquidity provider mug. It's all on our website, inthemoneypod.com. Click that shop button. All right, let's get into today's episode.
Hey, David, welcome to the podcast. Thanks so much for joining us again.
David Szybunka (3:49)
Hey, thanks for having me, Amber.
Amber Kanwar (3:50)
I love having you on because you're obviously so good to talk to you about equities and the energy market, but also gives me a break in the comments about my hair. People love to talk about your hair.
David Szybunka (4:01)
Your hair is better than mine, so the comments are going to come to you.
Amber Kanwar (4:05)
You've got the effortless look. The last time that you were on, you said that we were five years into a 15-year cycle. That was in November.
Since then, the TSX energy sector is up nearly 30 percent. The oil equities themselves have done so much better, of 40 percent. Do you still believe that the best is yet to come?
David Szybunka (4:26)
Yeah. The last time I was on, Amber, we said we were five years into a 15-year cycle, and so now we're six years into a 15-year cycle.
