Hey guys, welcome back to my campfire. I have two awesome stories to share with you tonight.
One of them is about a woman in Japan in the early 2000s, who has this totally bizarre thing happen to her while she's on a train in Japan. And the reason we know about it is because she documented what happened to her in real time on social media.
Very bizarre. And the second story I'm going to share with you is about this really creepy creature that apparently lives up in the mountains of northern Thailand. And there's this really just horrible encounter that this whole village had with it that, you know, has sort of become a legend over time. And apparently this is not an isolated instance that out in northern Thailand, like, this is a thing. It's very creepy. Around 11 p.m. on January 8th, 2004, a woman in her early 20s named Hatsumi was sitting on a train that was speeding through the city of Hamamatsu, Japan. As she rode along, she found herself staring anxiously out the window. So Hatsumi took this train every night to get to her overnight shift at work, and usually it was a quick ride, maybe about seven or eight minutes, and there were a whole bunch of stops along those seven or eight minutes before she arrived at her destination.
But tonight, she had just realized that she had actually been on the train now for at least 20 minutes, and she also hadn't stopped at any point. The train had just started and had been going for 20 minutes, and now she's realizing, wait a minute, am I on the wrong train? So Hatsumi began looking around the inside of this train car she was in to see if there was some signage that would say what train she was on. But as she looked inside the car, there was nothing, there was no signage one way or another. It was blank inside of this car, and she couldn't recall if that was how all the trains looked, but it seemed odd that there was nothing indicating what train she was on. So she was thinking, okay, well, maybe I've just missed my stop, and what I need to do is just get off at the next stop and maybe take a train back the way I came, and she's like, man, I'm already so late for work here, and the train at this point is still just chugging along here, like there's no sign of it stopping. So she looked around in the train car, and she's sort of thinking like, what should I do here? And she saw there were several other passengers that were on board the train, but this is late at night, it's past 11 o'clock, and so everybody on the train was asleep, like the few passengers that were there.
And so she knows, like, I think my best bet here is probably to go wake one of these people up and just ask them, like, what train is this? But you know, she was pretty nervous, sort of a shy person, and she really didn't want to do that. And so she wound up actually just calling her parents, even though, like, how would they know what train she was on? But they didn't pick up. And so she kind of just felt stuck, like she really didn't know what to do here. However, as Hasumi is sort of sitting there getting more and more anxious by the minute, she realized she actually might have a pretty easy solution here.
