I'm Dom Bettinelli, and join me today is Jimmy Akin. Howdy, Jimmy. Howdy, Dom. Folks, be sure to stick around to the end of the episode, as we'll have your feedback on our recent episode number 417 on crisis apparitions. But first, Jimmy, what topics are you going to be answering questions about today?

**Jimmy Akin** (0:45)
Well, we're going to be talking about the Devil's Bible, where it came from, and is its origin story true. We're going to be talking about who the naked young man was that ran away, or the young man who ran away naked during Jesus' arrest.
Whether Genesis 1's order of creation matches what's suggested by evolutionary science. Why meteorology, which involves predicting things in the sky is okay when astrology isn't, or is said to not be.
Whether souls in purgatory can pray for themselves, for each other and for us. Or whether receiving communion on Ash Wednesday counts as one of the permitted meals since it's Fast Day. Whether our resurrected bodies will have psychic abilities like telepathy or levitation. Could Jesus have just been an alien using advanced technology? And some more subjects that will be quite interesting.

**Dom Bettinelli** (1:42)
Excellent. Well, here are the questions and your answers.

**Cy Kellett** (1:53)
Hello and welcome to Catholic Answers Live. That music means you're in for some fun.
Two hours of fun. As a matter of fact, we got Weird Questions for Jimmy Akin. We reserved that music for when Jimmy's here and we've got Weird Questions for him. Jimmy Akin, of course, senior apologist here at Catholic Answers. Hello, Jimmy. Thanks for being here.

**Jimmy Akin** (2:13)
Hello, Cy Kellett. My pleasure.

**Cy Kellett** (2:15)
You are author of many books. I often give the titles of the book, but I want to give the title of the newest book because I'm so happy Jimmy Akin wrote this book, Evidence for Christ, How We Know That Jesus Is the Messiah. You can get it shop.catholic.com or wherever you get your Catholic books. Is there any weirdness in there, Jimmy? Is there anything that would make a weird show in there or no?

**Jimmy Akin** (2:37)
Oh, sure. Yeah. There's a lot. Well, I mean, even if you set aside miracles like the resurrection of Christ, which many people would consider weird, there is a whole bunch of weird stuff in messianic prophecy. Oh, yeah. Because the book surveys the different ideas about the Messiah that were circulating in Jesus' day and before and after.
And there's not just a single understanding of the Messiah in contemporary Judaism of the time. And so there's a whole mystery about what is the Messiah even.

**Cy Kellett** (3:14)
Uh-huh.
So I imagine people had some weird expectations for the Messiah then. Maybe things that we would go, no, didn't see that one. We assume maybe everyone was expecting Jesus. But some of the expectations might have been a little odd.

**Jimmy Akin** (3:30)
There are a whole bunch of different ideas about the Messiah that were in circulation and a lot of them conflict with each other. You'll sometimes hear people argue, well, he didn't fulfill all the messianic prophecies. And it's like, well, duh, nobody could. They conflict with each other.
So this book contains a survey of them and shows you which prophecies Jesus chose to fulfill based on the kind of Messiah he wanted to be.

**Cy Kellett** (3:59)
Please do check it out. Evidence for Christ, how we know that Jesus is the Messiah. That's the new one from Jimmy Akin. We haven't had a new one for a little while. It's very nice to have a new book from Jimmy.
And when they're about scripture and Jesus, I love whatever Jimmy's got to say about those topics. Personally, that's among my favorite things that we cover together. I also love Weird Questions. And we'll start with one from Matt W. Hey, Jimmy, I really enjoy your show. Not many Catholic podcasts I found address the weirder aspects of our world. My question is in regards to the Codex Gigas or The Devil's Bible. I've heard a lot of secular sources talk about it, but not really any Catholic ones.
What is your opinion on its mysterious origin story?

**Jimmy Akin** (4:46)
Okay, well, first I should clarify what Codex Gigas is for folks who may not be familiar with it.
