I have always thought that if you can learn how to sell, you will never not have a way to make money.
**Vera Quinn** (0:06)
I think it is a vital scale for life. So you need to go figure out, how do I present something to you in a way that can move you to action?
**Daniel** (0:17)
Vera Quinn started door to door, hearing no 90 times a day. She never quit. Now she's CEO of Cydcor, one of the largest outsourced sales forces in North America. In the next few minutes, she'll show you how to turn rejection into a paycheck.
**Vera Quinn** (0:35)
I would say first reframe what rejection is to you. So if there's going to be no's, it doesn't get in my head. It doesn't mean I'm not good enough. It doesn't mean I didn't do it right. It doesn't mean I'm never going to get it. It just means not now. Then I had this rule in my life, and it happened when I was younger.
You just need to learn the-
**Daniel** (1:03)
I have to know if this is true. Everyone right now that is building some sort of AI-based company is saying our AI-based salesperson is going to replace your human sales team. Whether it's in customer service, whether it's call centers, you are saying that the human-to-human interaction in sales is not going to be replaced.
**Vera Quinn** (1:25)
That's our bet. That is our bet. I understand that very simple things are going to be able to be done by AI, and we're using it even at Cydcor. But I believe that in order to make complex decisions, people want to talk to people. I guess my biggest proof point is the busiest store at any mall, and that's the Apple Store.
And there's everything that you can do in that store, you can do on your phone. But it is busy all the time. If you go to Thousand Oaks, to the Apple Store, there is a red carpet outside that Apple Store, and people line up and wait to get into the store. Why? People want to talk to smart people, their technology, their home services, what they want to buy, they want to have an informed conversation with somebody. And I'm not sure, unless the robots come, maybe they will, and we're going to train the robots to be as good as us.
Until that time, people want to talk to smart people, and they want something broken down for them. They want a human to be able to show them, especially when it's complex. No, if I'm buying a skirt on Nordstrom, I don't need a person. I'm good. How do I interact with this? I'll upload a picture of myself, the skirt, they'll show me the skirt on me, and I can buy.
If I'm talking about my cell phone service, if I'm talking about my energy service, if I'm talking about business services, I want to talk to somebody. It's like the trusted Honda dealer, right? I want to speak to somebody who knows about this, and you can explain it to me in a way that is personal to me, and my life, and the way I use this particular service. I think, especially because now we don't know what's real and not real, I go on the Internet. I don't know if this video is real. I don't know if it was generated by people. I don't know if it was AI generated. I have absolutely no idea of what they're saying in this video is true. I think for a period of time, I'm going to double down on people, and the fact that I can see you and touch you and you're with me, makes me trust you very differently than when you call me, or when you try and reach out to me digitally.
Do you answer your phone if you don't know who it is?
**Daniel** (3:51)
The worst thing, Vera, is when I answer the phone, and I'm not sure if it is AI or a human, and then I have to ask them, are you human or are you AI? My fear is, what if the AI starts saying it's human?
**Vera Quinn** (4:03)
Well, I mean, but what do you do? Let's say you don't know somebody, and they call you on your phone. What do you do? I know what I do. Exactly. Exactly. Exactly. So how is that going to replace me coming to your door? How is that going to replace me coming to your business? How is that going to replace me talking to you in a big box retail store about this service?
Now, at some point in time, let's say 10 years from now, 15 years from now, we will fully trust this technology, if we do, then maybe.
