Hey guys, it's me, Bob, aka Daddy Longlegs. Anyway, this week is special because Will's not here, he's on a work trip, and I have a colonoscopy on Wednesday.

Thought it would be funny if I did a podcast, take him to prep, but I'd also rather be comfortable. So this week we did a little special and I had a nice long chat with Russ, Retro Game Corp. You all know, everyone knows Retro Game Corp. I actually haven't talked to him in quite a while, so this is actually a really nice little catch up session.

This is a fun one. I like this one. Will also did give me notes for topics. I'll give you one. There's PlayStation Plus monthly games for the month of October. We gotta always talk about that in the beginning of the show. You get Hunt Showdown 1896, Earth Defense Force World Brothers 2, and F1, the movie? No, this is the game, the F1 25 game. So that's cool. Those are your games for PlayStation Plus and you have PlayStation Plus. Anyway, enjoy this conversation we have with Russ. Okay, bye.

Russ (1:12)

It's been forever. You know, and we were talking before, but like I was on this podcast once. Little baby Russ. This is before I even was allowed to have a beard because I was still in the military, you know.

Bob Wulff (1:21)

You were in it at the time?

Russ (1:23)

Yeah, I was still in the military at the time. And yeah, so it was about a year and a half before I had retired.

But yeah, that was over five years ago, last time I was on this podcast. So thank you again for having me on.

Bob Wulff (1:34)

Yeah, of course. I couldn't, you were the first person I thought of.

Russ (1:38)

Oh, yeah, I'm glad.

Bob Wulff (1:39)

You are the emulation guy now. You've been the guy for like two, three years now at this point.

Russ (1:47)

Yeah. Yeah.

Bob Wulff (1:47)

I mean, you've been doing it for a while, but you've been the guy for a long time.

Russ (1:53)

You use me so often in your videos, you know? And it's funny, you're getting now to the point where to use me is a failure from the other companies, right? And be like, listen, this thing sucks because you got to use a retro game core guide to get it working, you know?

Bob Wulff (2:06)

Yeah. I mean, there's a certain level of you're gonna need a retro game core guide no matter what.

Russ (2:14)

Right.

Bob Wulff (2:14)

But certain companies, I think, do a good job where a normal person might not necessarily have to dig that deep, like they might be okay. Like an amber neck, if you get thrown an amber neck, like a normal person might be fine, like tooling around with whatever's there. And then maybe if they like it enough, they can dive deeper to look at some guides and tool around a little more. But I'm trying to give myself more perspective when I review these things, that this could be somebody's first one, and it could be really off-putting to have the, I don't know, to have to summit the mountain of RetroArch. You know? That's the first thing you're going to download, and that thing is not an easy thing to figure out how to use.

Russ (2:58)

Yeah, absolutely. And then even then, you know, things are getting so complicated because, for Android specifically, right, it's becoming more and more powerful. Like there's more and more emulators, and my videos get longer and longer. And so now it's, I'm in a weird spot where it's like, I need to make sure that these videos are very beginner friendly, but also, there's no way I can do it under two hours. And so now I'm making two hour long videos because it's so complex and there's so many layers to it. And I feel bad for people just jumping in, you know, like buying the AYN Thor because they saw it on TikTok. And then all of a sudden they're like, what, a two hour guide is the standard? And it's, yeah, that's a lot.

Bob Wulff (3:35)

Yeah. You have your own podcast now.

Russ (3:39)

Yeah, I'm doing it with Adam Patrick-Murray from PC World. It's called Expedition Handheld. We've been doing it now. Our next episode is Expedition 33 So that's our 33rd episode. So we're very excited about that one. I don't know if we're going to do anything celebratory with that. But yeah, so we've been doing it since basically the beginning of this year. And it's been fun, a weekly podcast. He runs the show. I just kind of show up with his notes and then we just kind of roll with it, which is great, you know, because he loves putting that stuff together. I hate putting that stuff together.
