There's only main character energy here. Now let's get into it.
Welcome to episode 840 The best decisions usually feel simpler than your mind wants them to. The best decisions usually feel simpler than your mind wants them to. Why do humans like to make everything complex? Well, it couldn't be that easy. Well, it couldn't be that simple. Well, you know, that's too easy for me. Nobody would want to pay me for that role or for that skill set or, you know, we tend to make everything harder. Now, obviously there's a lot in there. We're going to discuss that here. You know, I do believe clarity is quiet, is often very quiet. When you're clear, everything's very calm and very knowing and very connected. Again, this is why I have such a deep relationship with prayer and connecting with God, because things just feel cleaner. You can... They're clearer. You can hear it. You can feel it, right? Now, the mind, the mind, on the other hand, can make up any narrative it wants to. It can come in and tell you a whole bunch of things that aren't at all remotely true, but you feel like it's true, you make it out to be like it's true, you know?
And it even helps govern maybe some of the decisions you're making that are opposite of what you're really wanting, needing, or for you. You know, that's why we see people sabotage opportunities or relationships. We see people, you know, procrastinate or, you know, not take the risk, quote unquote, the risk, you know, for the thing, the calling that they know that they should be doing. You feel it. You feel this resistance. And sometimes the mind can make it more complex. It just does. Why? Because we're humans. So let's talk about that in this episode. I want to talk about why the mind resists simple answers. I want to talk about how overthinking creates complexity. There is, I mean, we all know this, you know, analysis paralysis, right? We overthink everything versus calming it down to be like, what do I know in this moment? And, you know, where do I go from here versus, but what if this happens? What if that happens? You know, I was very fortunate growing up where, you know, if I worried about something in the future, my father was always very much like, you know, it hasn't happened yet, you know, and he would always remind me, it wasn't his thing, but he would always remind me of that saying, right? It's like 99% of the things that you worry about never come true, and they really don't. And you know this because if you were to look back right now on your life, what about the things you used to worry about that have never happened? Right? But we overthink, and we want to make something more complex. And you know, that's why a lot of times you hear me talk about the books, which by the way, in the show notes, you can find in the recommended reading, the books like The One Thing or Essentialism, this idea of when you remove so many of the bad habits, the distractions, the extra, the externalities that are constantly vying for your attention, the extra energy going towards things that don't matter. When you remove all of that complexity, what you are left with is simplicity. And simplicity is also where you find your life, you know? And why I'm so into simplicity is because it's actually where everything accelerates. The things that you want actually accelerate. And instead of constantly trying to force inside of complexity, right? I also want to talk about why real clarity tends to be quiet. We're going to look further at that one. Also, the difference between analysis and knowing is a big difference. There's analysis like, I got to keep breaking it down, I got to keep looking further. Knowing is a feeling. It's an intuition. We have intuition all the time happening. Your body and your nervous system and your entire system is set up for it, for knowing.
Do we listen to it all the time? No, that's an issue, right? That's become an issue. Why didn't I not listen to myself? Why didn't I not listen to my intuition? We talked about this plenty of times on here. And then just in general, it's always worth revisiting because your intuition just knows. God is always giving you information, and we have to listen. Whether or not we do is a different story.
