All right, here we go. Friday edition of the program starts right now. Finally got the day of the week right, Will.
That was last week, wasn't it?
Yeah, thank goodness. I was just, I had my fingers crossed on that. Welcome one and all to the only hour on local radio, at least that I know of, devoted exclusively to seniors. What we like, what we think about, what we need, what we want, what we'd like the world to be like, where we'd like to go, all of that. For more than 12 years now, by the way, my wife didn't think Fifty Plus had been on that long wheel, but I was actually scrolling through emails, trying to delete as many as I could yesterday of the bajillion I have, and out with the old and in with the new. There's too much new coming in for me to keep up and get it out of there. But in any event, I came across a very early email that referenced Fifty Plus, and that was from 2014
So, been a hot minute. I thought we were in our 11th year, but actually I think it is our 12th, believe it or not. So, thank you all for listening. I do appreciate that. For more than 12 years now, worked hard to inform and entertain mostly seniors, of course, but also the wonderful adult children of older parents.
Mine's only 18 My only child is 18 He's not really into what I'm worried about just yet. He's more focused on his life and getting it started and going in a good direction. And I have no problem with that at all. Quite proud of some of the things he says now that he's gotten to 18 and a little bit of that frontal cortex is starting to mature. Getting started, by the way, in case you haven't been outside and just turned on the radio, or your smart device, by the way. And I saw something about those today that kind of scared me. There's just all this new technology is being plugged into what we think are fairly simple and innocuous devices. But all of that new technology enables those devices in your house, on your wrist, wherever they are, in your hands.
It enables them to pretty much pluck out anything that's in that device and use it, they say, to help you.
But it's also following you, it's tracking you, it's recording everything, and it's getting a little bit creepy and scary. Just a teensy bit.
I don't know where that's going to go, but I certainly hope that we can, we can get ourselves back into some, some level of security with the, with the help of AI, as I want the help from AI, but I don't want it, I don't want AI to be able to have access to everything in my phone, or my laptop, or whatever. I think that's horribly intrusive. There's a lot of personal information in machines we have right now. And I think a lot of us forget about how, how carefully we need to guard little things like a social security number, like medical information, just all financial information. We need to be very careful and very watchful of how and just how quick we are to check the box when it says, before you can use this app, you have to sign off on our, our policies. And before you know it, you start reading that stuff and you realize that you've pretty much given them the keys to the castle.
So anyway, the weather, let's go to the weather. We'll do that. Remember that yellow blob that the National Hurricane Center put on the map this week down there, way down in the south end of the Bay of Campeche? That's what's going to bring our rain early next week. I skipped over the forecast here, by the way. Pretty nice today and tomorrow, then a good chance for rain through the first three days of next week. On the plus side, those three rainy days bring back highs in the 80s, kind of high 80s, but nonetheless. And then after that, it's right back in the 90s. So the yellow blob, that's what's going to bring that rain early next week. And if you go to the website right now, the National Hurricane Center, I don't think they've updated it yet. And what you will see is what I saw this morning, I hope, because it's really kind of funny. But this low pressure system now is marked as coming right up the coast from the Bay of Campeche all the way over to the Sabine River. Picture that in your head. Picture it as kind of a blob, and it's not a straight line, it's a two-dimensional blob that they have on that map, all in yellow checkered lines. And for all the world, it looks like a giant banana that's gonna eat South Texas.
