Well, hello, everybody.
Welcome to That's Me, That's Me. I'm Monica Kaye.
Julia Jaye (0:28)
And I'm Julia Jaye.
Monica Kaye (0:30)
And we're broadcasting yet again from the boot beautiful Cincinnati Public Radio Studios. Here on That's Me, That's Me, we talk about what brought people back after their first meeting of Alcoholics Anonymous. So often we hear what got us to our first meeting, but we love to listen for what brought somebody back for their second meeting. What did they see, hear, feel, experience that encouraged them to return to the rooms?
Each week, we do invite a guest to join us on the show and share their story of what brought them back to their second meeting and the moment they began to relate and say to themselves, That's me, that's me. That's your cue, Julia.
Julia Jaye (1:07)
I love that you said, We love to hear about.
Monica Kaye (1:12)
That was good.
Julia Jaye (1:13)
I like it.
Monica Kaye (1:14)
I may have had a little more coffee than I needed this morning.
Julia Jaye (1:17)
When I had my second cup, I thought, oh, Monica's going to notice.
So, yes, I don't usually have two cups, but this morning I did. So how's your week?
Monica Kaye (1:28)
Good. Actually, ditto, I was just this morning, I was sitting back behind the scenes here at NPR and answering phones for the, it's the fun drive season. I know, it was so much fun.
It was really super fun.
Julia Jaye (1:45)
You're big time.
Monica Kaye (1:46)
It's, you know, I've been donating for a long time, but anyway, it's one of my little passions, and I'm grateful for what they do here. And so it was fun sitting back there answering phones.
And it was a great week, and God, it's hard to even think back on what's been going on. You know, getting back into your routine, some work's being done on the house, so bouncing in and out there, and getting ready to leave for conference tomorrow, going down to Blue Licks for the weekend. So again, really looking forward to that. What about you, my friend?
Julia Jaye (2:19)
Uh, just, you know, busy with work and kids, trying to deal with, in sort of like a transition a little bit, life transition in terms of my role as a mom shifting a little bit, having teenagers, just trying to feel out like being present, but also feeling like no one's interested in me being present. I've been kind of working through that. Um, and it's been good. It's, uh, you know, I didn't realize, I've shared in my home group recently, like I didn't realize how much I was struggling. I always think of myself as like, I've got this, this is fine. You know, like, I'll be fine, and I'm working through this, and I've been kind of sad about it a little bit. So a little grief. Um, and I haven't been, I was just on the way here thinking about how I haven't been to enough meetings. I dropped some meetings this week because I've had other things going on.
And so my goal today is to look at my schedule next week and actually like schedule attendance at meetings instead of it just being like, well, I'll go on that day if that works, because that usually works for me. And yeah, I don't know, just trying to stay afloat. And I think that I didn't appreciate when I, before I had kids and had like a full-time job, is when I got sober, I didn't have either of those things. That like, just trying to find the balance of making sure that I put AA first in my life when my life is full, because I'm sober, I guess. Yeah.
Monica Kaye (3:53)
Yeah, it's, you know, a lot of reasons not to go to a meeting. If you're looking for them, you don't have to look that hard, do you? That's why like a routine for me works well too, and some service commitments and things like that.
Julia Jaye (4:06)
Yeah. Well, thank God for the podcast, because I wouldn't miss this for the world.
So, but yes.
Monica Kaye (4:15)
We're in love.
Julia Jaye (4:16)
We are. We love each other.
And, you know, soccer season really is like, my home group's on Thursday nights, and soccer, I swear, the whole season, it's on a Thursday night. So, you know, that's just the way life goes. All right. So, we are excited to invite our guests into the conversation.
She is my anniversary buddy. Her sobriety date is July 29th, 1990 She got sober 10 years before me, just to note that. Her home group is the Monday night women's meeting here in Cincinnati in Indian Hill. And her current service position is she's the treasurer on a Zoom meeting here in town as well. And we're really excited to invite Dee S to the conversation.
