Julia Jay (0:23)

Hi, everyone, welcome to That's Me, That's Me. I'm Julia Jay.

Monica Kay (0:27)

And I'm Monica Kay.

Julia Jay (0:28)

And we are broadcasting from the beautiful Cincinnati Public Radio Studios. Here on That's Me, That's Me, we talk about what brought people back after their first meeting of Alcoholics Anonymous. So often we hear what got people to their first meeting, but we always love hearing about what brought them back to their second. What did they see? What did they hear? And what did they feel that encouraged them to come back to the rooms? Each week, we invite a guest to come on the show to share their story of what brought them back to their second meeting. And the moment they began to relate to them and say to themselves, that's me, that's me, hello.

Monica Kay (1:05)

Hi, I missed you this week.

Julia Jay (1:08)

Yeah, same. We need to, we should, we haven't seen each other outside of this room in a while. We need to, we need to do that.

Monica Kay (1:16)

You know, that's an interesting point. I think because I know I'm gonna see you once a week that we don't make the, that I don't make the effort anymore during the, that's a really good point, Julia.

Julia Jay (1:24)

Yeah, we've gotten into a groove where we're like, oh yeah, that's our third, that's my Thursday friend.

Monica Kay (1:31)

Tell me about your week.

Julia Jay (1:33)

Um, I don't know. I don't know.

I got nothing.

Monica Kay (1:40)

You know, I'm kind of like that today. Yeah. It's a really cozy, rainy morning, and it just feels good to, yeah, I was just, you know, sometimes on the drive over, I start rewinding and thinking about the week in review. And you know, it's been a great, great, great week. There's stuff happening, but maybe we're just in the moment.

Julia Jay (1:58)

I like that. You know, I do, I'm going to go rogue and say that we're talking a lot about and have, in, I don't know, for the last several months about trying to figure out, making sure that people understand that this is service work, and not that we're trying to follow the traditions and make sure that we get that out there, and that people know.

Monica Kay (2:23)

Self-supporting? Yeah.

Julia Jay (2:25)

And so, that's been on my mind about how to, what does that look like? And then also, too, in my home group, we've been doing the, we've been kind of going through a couple of the group inventory questions at every business meeting. And so, that's been really, I don't know, I'm really enjoying it because it's, I love hearing other people, of course, you know, I think I have all the right answers.

And then other people say stuff and I'm like, oh, maybe I don't have all the right answers. So, that's been good. And so, yeah, I don't know, that's it. I'm just trying to fill the air. I don't have anything to say.

Monica Kay (3:00)

Let's bring our guest in. Maybe she has something.

Julia Jay (3:02)

That's a great idea.

Monica Kay (3:05)

All right. So our guest today got sober in Northern Kentucky, just over the river. Her sobriety date is December 28th of 1994

Her home group is Destiny Care, she's been the treasurer for quite a long time, and has recently turned that position over, and is the door greeter now, which I love. It's always great to see somebody standing at the door. Even though it's a meeting that I go to for a long time, it's always great to come down the steps and see somebody at the door. And with that, please help us welcome Nancy J.

Nancy J. (3:38)

Hello, good morning.

Julia Jay (3:40)

Good morning, Nancy.

Monica Kay (3:41)

I'm so excited you're here. You're somebody who we sought out.

You know, there's just some people that you see across the room, and it's like, I like their energy. I don't even know. It doesn't even mean that's an exchange of words. Just sometimes you're one of those people just seeing you in the room. Kind of makes it feel like a more robust room.

Nancy J. (3:58)

Well, thank you. That's nice.

Monica Kay (4:03)

How was your week? Tell us a little bit about what you've been doing.

Nancy J. (4:06)

Let's see. I know it was the fireworks. I went to a friend's house, and they've got a great spot in Newport to be able to see the fireworks, and I always loved to be with them anyways.

I don't just work in and be in with my grandsons.
