Let's not waste any more time. Let's bring him in here now.

Tonight's guest is Dan Hammond. Dan, thanks so much for coming back.

Well, thank you for having me again.

Vic Cundiff (2:22)

Oh, no, you're welcome. Glad to do it.

Dan, you're featured on episode 521 of this show. It's been some time ago, but for anyone who missed that episode, please give us a brief bio on yourself.

Dan Hammond (2:36)

So, I have been a paranormal investigator for several years, probably about 10 to maybe 10 to a dozen years, mostly focusing on like haunted homes, haunted businesses, forests, cemeteries, that sort of thing. I belong to a paranormal group called SHIP, S-H-I-P, which is Strange Happenings and Investigators of the Paranormal. You can find them on Facebook. We're based out of Southwestern Ontario, Canada.

And for a lot of people, usually if you're interested in the paranormal, with a specific topic like ghosts, then you're going to branch out into things like UFOs, and cryptids. And my main thing in the beginning was ghosts, because I grew up in a haunted house. You know, I've dealt with a lot of strange things in my life pertaining to spirits. And, you know, I don't want to call them, quote unquote, demons, but dark entities and non-human entities. And I don't want to say it got boring after a while, because I don't really scare easily. Like, I've been attacked by spirits. I've been punched in the face by a spirit that followed me home from an old farmhouse that we did. And, you know, people will probably be like, yeah, right. But I loved it. Like, you know, I was like bringing on. Like, it didn't scare me at all.

And it also kind of got boring. Because if anybody is a paranormal investigator, there's a lot of time spent sitting in a dark empty house or a barn or some other kind of business or whatever. And you're sitting there for hours and hours and hours in the dark. You know, usually talking to yourself, you know, with a recorder in hand. And, you know, if it's not for you, like just sitting there and not doing anything, then it's going to be tough.

So, I kind of branched out more into the cryptid side of things. And I joined a group called Ontario Sasquatch, which is a Bigfoot research group based out of North Bay, Ontario. And got involved with them. And you know, I'd always believed somewhat in Bigfoot, but never really looked into it, you know, other than, you know, watching, you know, some of the shows on TV and seeing, you know, the Patterson-Gimlin film when I was a kid and started talking to people and thought, well, maybe you'll get into this as well because you're outdoors, you know, which is a lot better than sitting in a dark dusty attic or some moldy basement somewhere and, you know, using some of the techniques that people show you, like the wood knocks and the whooping and it just kind of became my number one in regards to the paranormal. So I would like, I haven't done a ghost investigation in probably a couple of years, like a few years.

And COVID, you know, unfortunately, kind of ruined that in a way for a lot of people because people didn't want you in their homes and, you know, there's there were so many mandates and restrictions. But anybody can go outside and you're not likely to get caught in the bush, you know, not masking up or being with a group of friends. But and since that's gone, it's just been my main focus. And like all, you know, like most people who are interested in cryptids, you always start with Bigfoot. Like he's like the number one, or they're the number one. And then you get into the Dogman crawlers, you know, the Pukwudgies, little people of the forest, maybe some sea serpents, that sort of thing. But yeah, I really, I'm really getting interested in the big furry cryptids. And notice that there were a ton of people having experiences. And, you know, I think even like maybe five years ago, ten years ago, people were really hesitant to talk about their sightings.
