Hello everybody, welcome to another episode of The Locked On Blue Devils Podcast. My name is JJ Jackson. Thanks so much for being here with us today on Thursday, July 23rd, 2026 Locked On Blue Devils is your one stop shop where we discuss everything going on inside the life of Duke Athletics. And on today's show, my good buddy Jeff Fedotin from Forbes will be stopping by. We have got to talk about the footage that Duke has now put out there. It's only 50 seconds in total, but man, actually seeing this group on the floor together, truly special what they're going to be able to do. Javin DeLaurier added to the basketball staff, more thoughts on that. And then also some recruiting updates that we want to touch on throughout today's show. But Jeff Fedotin, my good buddy, joining me on the show once again. Great to see you, Jeff. I hope everything's going well in your world. And like I teased just a moment ago, it really was a tease from Duke to only give us less than a minute's worth of basketball tape. But boy, it was special to watch.

**Jeff Fedotin** (1:33)
JJ, happy to be on Locked On Blue Devils. And yeah, I mean, we're so starving for content. We just eat up whatever little morsel they'll give us. And it was very cool to see that that quick clip.

**JJ Jackson** (1:44)
Yeah, and I mean, seriously, it's like 50 seconds. And somehow, someway, they're able to almost put in every single player, it felt like, making an impact play. And when you're watching this, thinking about all the different lineup possibilities that could be there for this team, thinking about who's handling the ball more. I know one of the big takeaways people had was Dame Sarr dribbled it three times or something, which was snow unexpected from what we saw a year ago. But yeah, just the versatility. Even in a short sample, it's like, man, your brain starts to go to really awesome places when you visualize what's to come.

**Jeff Fedotin** (2:16)
Yeah, you mentioned Dame, that was one of my big takeaways. It's funny that it's, you know, since they last played at the end of March, it hasn't really been that long, even though we're starved for contact, starved for content. And Dame just physically looks like a different person. He not only has the longer hair, he's much thicker.
So yeah, physically, he looks like a different person. He's one of the players I'm most excited about for this year, just because the upside for this guy, we know what he is. He's arguably as good a perimeter defender as he is in college basketball. So if he just gets a little bit more shooting, if he develops that handle, I mean, this guy, we've talked about on the show before. I don't think it's crazy to say this guy could be a lottery pick and a little bit of a down year for a draft. No doubt.
Is that good. So it's exciting to see him dribble a little bit and also to be a little bit more bulked up. Man, if he was that good a defender as a skinny guy, imagine if now that he can not only lock down the who's the ball handler, who's initiating the offense, but he's a little bit burly. Maybe you can mix it up a little bit.

**JJ Jackson** (3:31)
Yeah, and I think obviously this is what you visualize if you're Duke staff even a season ago, because even going into the year, like there were, we talked about it, some kind of crazy draft potential for him before he had ever played a single game, and now it's actually starting to be there, it looks like, with what could be. Again, I don't want to overreact to, that's what we do this time of year, but it's easy to fall victim to that. But I really do think, like you're saying, there's going to be a big step.

**Jeff Fedotin** (4:00)
Absolutely. Yeah, he was definitely one of the guys that stood out. Of course, the kind of the talk of the offseason was Boumtje Boumtje. I think he was the other guy who stood out. He seemed to be just like you thought, you're not going to see missed shots and stuff in the clip released by the school. But still, he looked like everything we had seen from the Team USA and all that footage. He looked like the same exact guy and why everyone's so excited about him. So he and Sarr were the two people that stood out for me as we're breaking down the 50 second clip like it's a Zapruder film.
