Suzyn Waldman had checked in with us, and she reached out to the head peanut guy here at Yankee Stadium, and she can confirm, they have somehow, someway found peanuts. So despite them running out of peanuts in game two against the Red Sox, and there being this peanut game.
Chris McMonigle (0:17)
We were told that's a lie, too. They were low on peanuts.
SPEAKER_3 (0:19)
They ran out of peanuts. They were low on peanuts.
Chris McMonigle (0:21)
They never ran out of peanuts.
Craig Carton (0:22)
They will have peanuts here today.
Chris McMonigle (0:24)
There was not one person who desired peanuts that has ever been turned away at Yankee Stadium.
Craig Carton (0:28)
That's not true. Jason Fox is the one who told me that they ran out of peanuts, could not buy peanuts in game two.
SPEAKER_3 (0:33)
Maybe at one stand.
Craig Carton (0:35)
And now I'm being told this. And this, I find this as a very positive omen for the Yankees tonight. Peanuts will be back at Yankee Stadium tonight, so I want to apologize.
During the last segment, when I was told that they had run out and there'd be no peanuts, the Yankees very quickly pivoted and they found a peanut guy. And the head peanut guy did tell Suzyn Waldman, who by the way, was a great reporter, before she became an analyst here for the Yankee Radio Network on WFAN. And she reached out to the right people. I don't know who those people are. I don't question their sources. But if you want a peanut at Yankee Stadium tonight, you can get a little slice of Americana.
Chris McMonigle (1:10)
And while I'll say this, while your relationship with Suzyn is obviously wonderful compared to where it was, she was very happy to tell you you were wrong.
Craig Carton (1:17)
Yeah, she was.
Chris McMonigle (1:18)
As we all were.
Craig Carton (1:18)
By the way.
Chris McMonigle (1:19)
As we all were. We all kind of enjoyed Suzyn bursting into the booth, saying, you're wrong, you're wrong.
It was the best moment of the day so far. Hopefully, Max Fried can give me more good moments and the Yankees give me good moments. But as of right now, that's the joy on her face to tell you you're wrong about the peanuts is so far the highlight of my day.
Craig Carton (1:39)
I'm glad I made you happy.
SPEAKER_3 (1:40)
Thank you. And I want to thank Suzyn for her reporting as well.
Chris McMonigle (1:43)
Thanks to you for being wrong again. Thanks to Suzyn for getting to the bottom of it. Thanks to everyone.
Craig Carton (1:47)
What a great save by the Yankees, by the way.
SPEAKER_3 (1:49)
Yeah, what a great save.
Craig Carton (1:50)
To go from yesterday the thought of no peanuts to suddenly everybody gets peanuts.
That's great. Nice.
Chris McMonigle (1:58)
Yeah, I feel so much better.
Craig Carton (1:59)
I'm going to reach out to Niko and see if he can bring me some peanuts just to prove that they have them.
Chris McMonigle (2:03)
Yeah, just yeah.
Craig Carton (2:04)
Yeah. So anyhow, let's get back to talking about the game.
Chris McMonigle (2:07)
Of course, I want to see some peanuts.
Craig Carton (2:09)
The lineups have not been announced yet. No, probably about an hour away or so.
Chris McMonigle (2:13)
Look, I think there's going to be some tweaking to it. The manager mentioned that they're going to tweak the lineup a little bit. I wouldn't be surprised if it is Anthony Volpe at second base.
Craig Carton (2:21)
Is that a change for change's sake, though? More so than it makes more sense?
Chris McMonigle (2:27)
Yeah, it's just to change things up, have a different approach, have the right-handed starter see more right-handed pitching. I think there is something to be said about facing nothing but lefties and you get into a pattern. I think David Cohn used to talk about this, but this was more when the Yankees were all right-handed, which I had more of a problem with, especially with the short portion left, the Yankees are built on lefty power. But the idea of just a pitcher being able to stay in the same zone and path to get outs over and over again. He's going to pitch every hitter the same. Every hitter is getting the same stuff. There are pitchers who throw different pitches to right-handed and left-handed batters, so you never make them pull out his curve ball, you never make them throw his cutter, and it's exclusive fastball change-up because that's what he throws against lefties, and it's over, and it's over, and it's over, and he never has to change his game plan. Even if it's a lesser hitter, or even if it's someone who doesn't hit right-handed pitching, just to make Nick Martinez tonight not see nothing but lefties and have to change up his game plan batter to batter, there's an argument to be made. There's an argument to be made. I just don't see a big enough advantage in playing Anthony Volpe over Jazz. But if they do it, I don't think it's a disaster.
