Such Sights to Show You
The Nextlander Podcast
October 15, 2026
Once upon a time we thought there wouldn't be many games out in October. Anyway, this week we get into Hellraiser: Revival, Ratatan, Silver Pines, and more Galactic Racer, Control Resonant, and End of Abyss.
Speakers Vinny Caravella, Alex Navarro, Brad Shoemaker
Vinny Caravella (0:10)
Hello, everybody, welcome back to another Nextlander Podcast. It's middle of October here. It is a lovely 75 degrees.
Alex Navarro (0:21)
No, Vinny, it's a lovely 79 degrees with 175 percent humidity.
Vinny Caravella (0:28)
Look, you know, you're typical North, when you think of Northeast Halloween time, what do you think of as shorts and humid weather?
Alex Navarro (0:37)
It looks like as much like Halloween outside right now as the original movie Halloween looked like actual Halloween outside, which is to say, not very.
Vinny Caravella (0:46)
Yeah, but everybody remembers Mike Myers running around in those long shorts and a tank top.
Alex Navarro (0:50)
Yeah, in the middle of Pasadena in July.
Vinny Caravella (0:53)
In July. Brad Shoemaker, you're on the East Coast. How's your East Coast fall?
Brad Shoemaker (0:57)
Close enough to you guys to actually kind of identify with what you're saying about the weather.
Alex Navarro (1:01)
You can at least feel the humidity, right?
Brad Shoemaker (1:03)
It's like 90 degrees here yesterday, almost.
Vinny Caravella (1:05)
Yeah, that ain't what you'd expect in the middle of October.
Alex Navarro (1:09)
It's almost like weather is broken.
Brad Shoemaker (1:11)
We also have the remnants of a Gulf Coast hurricane last weekend here, which was the latest first hurricane in recorded history.
Vinny Caravella (1:19)
Oh, yeah? That's a late one?
Brad Shoemaker (1:21)
They practically got through the hurricane system, season, excuse me. The East Coast, like the Gulf Coast area. I guess they're typhoons right on the Pacific.
Alex Navarro (1:32)
Well, not anymore because apparently they're getting tropical storms and hurricanes now.
Brad Shoemaker (1:35)
I am clearly, I am a trained meteorologist.
Vinny Caravella (1:37)
I knew that.
Alex Navarro (1:38)
Everybody knows that.
Brad Shoemaker (1:39)
I guess we're talking about the Atlantic hurricane season, but they almost made it through the Atlantic hurricane season without a hurricane this year, and then all of a sudden, Isaiah's popped up right at the end. They were like, oh, this is the latest hurricane we've ever recorded for the first one in the season. And then anyway.
Vinny Caravella (1:52)
Your super Nino or whatever they're calling it, giant Nino. Oh, yes.
Brad Shoemaker (1:57)
There is a super El Nino waiting for me back home when I get there at some point. They declared, California declared a state of emergency months in advance for that thing.
Vinny Caravella (2:06)
Oh, really?
Brad Shoemaker (2:07)
Yes. Apparently, they're expecting some pretty serious flooding from that thing.
Alex Navarro (2:12)
I don't think you should call an El Nino anything other than something else within the frame of Spanish. So, it should be El Grande Nino. It should be The Large Son if we're going to do this. Like, it shouldn't just be Super El Nino. That doesn't sound right.
Vinny Caravella (2:28)
It is.
Brad Shoemaker (2:29)
It was the one that came out from the Super NES, though, you know. Yeah, that's right. El Nino 64 was way better.
Vinny Caravella (2:34)
I, you know, I just went with El El Nino.
The remake, you know, that's that's the best one. All right. Look, I know we we have our little dalliance with a banter here in the beginning.
Alex Navarro (2:48)
This is the grouse section. Let's get in there.
Vinny Caravella (2:50)
I look at the risk of just sounding like a Last Week Tonight segment. I do have to just air my airing of grievances at the beginning here on health care once again. And this time not necessarily even personally directly related to me. This has to do with my wife's dad, who's in his 80s, right? And he's on Medicare. For those that don't live in the United States at a certain age in the United States, you can start getting some subsidized health care or government health care from the government, right? And then it's very complicated. There's a whole thing. There's different parts to it. But private health care can manage some of that, right? Yeah. I'm going to skip this long story short. My wife's dad has nurses that come in to deal with some health issues, but has been having them for a while. He gets phone calls from different insurance groups, Aetna, United, I don't know, whatever else health care calls him, to try to get him to switch to their health care plan constantly. He has switched so many times now. He has no idea which health care plan he actually has. So they call him and they solicit him and they're like, hey, yeah, my wife has told him numerous times, every time you switch health insurance, it is a huge hassle because A, they have to come and do another evaluation on him for the nursing care. They have to have a social worker come every single time he switches, and he switched like four times in the last year.
