Stop LOWERING Auburn’s Standard | We Have TO AIM Higher | Auburn Podcast

The Auburn Express

September 11, 2026

Auburn football expectations shouldn't change just because fans have watched the program underperform. The standard is still the standard, and Southern Miss gives Auburn another opportunity to show that this program is moving back toward it. This isn't about predicting Auburn will win every game.

College football is back, so Hilton called on me, the Superstition Concierge, to make your fan rituals a reality. Need a room to match your lucky number? We got you. Want to make sure our team doesn't wash your lucky jersey? Oh, that smells lucky.

Hilton's unmatched hospitality can keep up with any superstition. Even a marching band wake up call at 555 and 55 seconds. Hit it. When you need a team that will do whatever it takes on game day, it matters where you stay. Hilton, for the stay.

B Wil (3:15)

I don't want to see it. I'm disgusted by it. Like I'm tired. And I think what disgusts me even more is that it's caused fans to lower their expectations and then subsequently tell me I'm wrong for having mine. I'm just like, where are you from?

Who raised you to lower your standards in that way? Don't do that. And again, that's not, I have to say this every time we talk about a standard, that's not me predicting what their wins are going to be, but the standard does not change just because, whether you reach it or not, that's a different thing. We can have a conversation about whether or not you got to the standard, but the standard exists. And I'm not changing that standard year to year. It was like, well, this year you should lower it a little bit because it's non-SEC games. And this year, because look at that schedule, I don't know, everybody got to play nine games. I don't care.

Standards, standards, man. What are we doing?

Mike G (4:13)

That's fact. That's a fact. All right.

B Wil (4:16)

Couple super chats. And then we're getting to this drawing. Charles, excuse me. Chris jumps in and says, do you think that the QB trying to show the NFL that he can stay in the pocket and throw, when you look at the South Florida game, it's different. So question here was, do you think that Byrum Brown was trying to make himself look like more of an NFL prospect by being more of a pocket passer in game one?

I don't know. So here's the reality.

When he, I'm sure all off season, he's with quarterback coaches and he's with people who are telling him, hey man, this is going to be your shot at the big leagues. You need to show that you can operate from the pocket because that's what's going to get you paid on Sundays. Maybe there was a little bit of that where he's like, I need to prove to people, like hearing the arm angle stuff all the time, and I need to prove to people I can throw them football. There's a possibility that some of that was part of this on Saturday. And then at the end of the game, they was like, f it man, we're just going to let our boy lose and he's going to run the ball.
