Welcome back to the Daily Crypto Roundup. The Bitget attacker has turned a $387.5 million exchange breach into a live test of decentralization. Go Plus Security says 101.5 Bitcoin has already exited through THORChain, and another 27.63 million XRP is being routed toward Bitcoin. THORChain says permissionless systems should not become address police. Its critics answer that the network already has emergency breaks. Today we also have Vitalik Buterin's vision for Ethereum after its last normal upgrade, new evidence about how the Clarity Act collapsed, and another multi-million dollar Solana transfer from Pump.fun.
At the time of recording, Bitcoin is around $84,550, up approximately 0.6% over 24 hours after trading between about 83,835 dollars.
Ethereum is near $2,688 dollars and almost unchanged. XRP is close to $1.52 and down roughly 1.9%.
BNB is around $777 and slightly higher, while Solana is near $121.70 and up approximately 0.7%.
Hyperliquid is close to $91.30.
Cardano is around $0.25 and Chainlink is near $14.03.
Chainlink is the weakest move in this group, down about 2%, while the broader market is mixed rather than making one decisive weekend move. Tell us whether a cross-chain protocol should stop identified stolen funds when it has the ability to pause. New Kraken users who sign up using our link in the description can claim 20 XRP from Crypto News Today.
Availability and eligibility vary by region. The 20 XRP is supplied by Crypto News Today, not Kraken. Using our link supports the show.
Leave a comment with the story you want us to investigate next. This is not financial advice. Crypto trading involves risk of loss. The lead story begins with the distinction that matters. THORChain cannot reverse Bitcoin transactions or seize coins that have already left its vaults. It can, however, pause parts of its own cross-chain system. Go Plus Security said today that approximately 100 1.5 Bitcoin worth $8.6 million had exited through THORChain from wallets linked to the Bitget breach. It said another 27.63 million XRP, worth $42 million, was being routed toward Bitcoin. Those are Go Plus tracing estimates, not numbers independently confirmed by Bitget or THORChain. The chief executive, Gracie Chen, has asked THORChain to refuse the attacker's wallets. THORChain's answer is that it is permissionless, like Bitcoin and Ethereum. The team asked what responsibility those base networks should bear when they process known stolen funds. That comparison is now under pressure because THORChain's architecture is different. Bitcoin miners validate transactions, but they do not collectively control a shared vault that signs outbound swaps. THORChain validators do. Its public documentation says node operators can issue emergency pause commands, halt trading, stop signing for a particular chain and coordinate through an on-chain parameter system called Mimir. Those tools are real. In May, after a malicious validator exploited a threshold signature weakness and drained about $10.7 million from one vault, automated protections and node operators stopped signing and trading. The network reached a controlled halt in about two hours. But having a break does not settle when to use it. THORChain's emergency procedures were designed for threats to its own pools and vaults.
They do not say every external theft must stop the network. A broad halt would also block innocent swaps. A selective deny list creates its own problem. Who maintains it? And what legal standard qualifies an address for exclusion? The strongest criticism is consistency. OKX founder Starshoe argued that a network able to stop when its own funds are at risk cannot claim it is simply the same as Bitcoin when somebody else's funds are moving. The strongest defense is that emergency security controls are not the same as a permanent censorship system. Ordinary users lose either way if the design is poorly governed. Refusing intervention can invite exchange or regulator pressure. Intervening without a clear rule can make every swap conditional on a small group's judgment.
Would you accept a temporary halt for officially identified attacker wallets, knowing that the same mechanism could later be used more broadly? The case for intervention weakens if Go Plus' tracing proves wrong or if a halt cannot target the flows without disrupting unrelated users. The neutrality case weakens if more assets become Bitcoin while validators decline to use powers they have previously exercised.
Watch the MyMirVotes, NodePauseCommands, the traced Bitcoin total and any formal response from THORChain explaining the standard it will apply. The second story is Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin's new 2030 architecture. He argues that Ethereum is moving beyond a conventional blockchain toward what he calls a cryptographic world computer. The practical shift is verification. Instead of downloading and re-executing everything, a node could sample data through PyrDAS and verify a succinct proof. Block construction would become multiparty. More computation could happen in parallel or off-chain, with proof showing the result is correct. Buterin says the Hageda fork planned for next year is likely to be Ethereum's last normal fork, meaning the last one whose components would look familiar to a developer from 2015
