From Corolla One Studios in Glendale, California, this is The Adam Carolla Show. Adam's guest today, exotic car expert, Steve Calamusa.
Plus the news would be Mike Dawson and now, Adam Carolla.
Adam Carolla (1:35)
Steve Calamusa is in studio. He's a car guy. He's got met Florida.
And we run in the same circle. So, you know, I love cars. Good to see you, Steve.
Steve Calamusa (1:45)
Good seeing you.
Adam Carolla (1:47)
So what do you got in your garage? I know you had the Demon, I think, the thousand horsepower with the drag pack and the whole nine yards. What else?
Steve Calamusa (1:58)
And I know you made a little fun at me for having that car. I did.
Adam Carolla (2:01)
Didn't make fun. I make fun of Mopar guys.
Steve Calamusa (2:03)
But I told you I did take that car to the drag strip and that was the purpose of getting it. But I understand there's a lot of people.
Adam Carolla (2:10)
Look, let me clarify my statements.
I'm a fan of anyone who uses their car. And if you got the Dodge Demon thing because you wanted to be the next Vin Diesel and you hold your Corona by the neck with your thumb and drink through your thumb, that's weird to me. But if you're going to throw the slicks on it and put the skinnies on the front and go take it out and do a quarter miles in it, then more power to you.
Steve Calamusa (2:35)
I don't have a poster board that I put next to it at a car show.
Adam Carolla (2:38)
Right. Yeah, you know, it's funny. People go, oh, it's a trailer queen, you know. Like all my race cars, a trailer, you got to trailer them in. You can't drive them to the track.
And you can't use all of them all the time, but as long as you get them out there.
Steve Calamusa (2:54)
I drive my cars and as you and I have discussed, I feel very lucky. I started off with very little.
I drove a rest of Bronco and now I'm lucky enough, I have a Porsche GT2 that I drive. I have a 911 Turbo, 997 that I drive.
Adam Carolla (3:12)
So the late 90s, is that what that is?
Steve Calamusa (3:15)
I have a 2008 Porsche GT2, so it's a 997
Adam Carolla (3:18)
No, the turbo.
Steve Calamusa (3:19)
It's water-cooled, so it's a 997 also. I focused on the 997 generation.
Adam Carolla (3:25)
But when did the 997 start?
Steve Calamusa (3:27)
The turbo started in 2007
Adam Carolla (3:29)
Oh, okay.
Steve Calamusa (3:30)
And they ran, I think, into 2013, but the Mezger engine that everybody loves in those cars went from 2007 to 2009 in the turbos.
Adam Carolla (3:39)
You know, Porsche, you know, it's kind of interesting. I was talking to Seinfeld about Porsche, and I said to him, I said, you know, there's no, I mean, he loves Porsches. But you have to kind of figure, like, why are people attracted to certain cars? Like, if you're attracted to a Mercedes G-Wagon because you're a douchebag, okay?
That's the biggest douchebag mobile. That is a tell for a douchebag. But I said, why you, Jerry Seinfeld, with the Porsches, and especially a lot of racing Porsches and vintage Porsches? And because Porsche isn't like, oh, I got a ton of money, I'm gonna let everyone know it. A lot of that stuff, a lot of his stuff is very under the radar kind of stuff. It's very understated, it's quiet kind of stuff. And I said, Jerry, you like the efficiency of the Porsche, right? And he's like, yeah, it is, everything works, everything's there for a reason. I go, you treat your comedy like Porsche treats their cars. You try to whittle it down, make it as lean as mean.
