If I could do the entire podcast with a Spider-Man mask over my sleep-deprived, corpse-like face, I would. But as always, the only true restorative property for me in this world is being here to pod with you about things that I love and that the bad babies are hyped about. I can't wait to talk about this movie.
**Joanna Robinson** (0:38)
We're going to take a swing through a little independent film called Spider-Man Brand New Day that I guess just a few people are seeing in the theater, and we're going to talk about all of that right after this.

Okay, before we get into Spidey, we came back from San Diego Comic-Con. We talked about the big Marvel panel that they did there in Hall H. So you can see that on our San Diego Comic-Con reaction pod that we did. But news has come out since then that I just wanted to touch on really briefly before we get into Spider-Man, which is that Wonder Man, a wonderful Marvel Disney Plus show.
**Mallory Rubin** (2:21)
Which we loved.
**Joanna Robinson** (2:22)
Which we loved, which got a surprise, I thought a surprising Season 2 renewal. Not because of quality, but just because of whatever's going on at Marvel these days. Got a Season 2 renewal, got an Emmy nomination, a much deserved Emmy nomination. And then Marvel changed their minds and they said, never mind. And now there is no Season 2 of Wonder Man. And like if there had never been a Season 2 of Wonder Man, that would be one thing.
The Emmy nomination coming in the middle of all of it is like super odd to be sort of discounted. Did you see Yaya's Instagram post? Which was very sweet, very gracious. Very gracious and at the very end he's like, see you at the Emmys I guess. You know, so, bummer.
**Mallory Rubin** (3:05)
This is just really, this sucks.
**Joanna Robinson** (3:08)
It sucks.
**Mallory Rubin** (3:09)
Season 1 of Wonder Man was wonderful and we were all looking forward to being back in that world with those characters and with that very specific and assured tone and intention and vision. I was thinking back again, I was like, had an actual what? When this hit the ringer verse group chat and then Adam sent it to me and I was like, in a bunch of meetings, didn't get to read the full article. I'm like, surely I've misread this headline. This like cannot be true.
And it's just such a shame because this is a wonderful little jewel of a show. And I was thinking back then to our very brief discussion of this on the Comic Con pod, be like, we're not here to talk about TV moment, which now actually feels a little more keen to me.
**Joanna Robinson** (3:54)
He did mention, so he mentioned Vision Quest, the third part of sort of the WandaVision trilogy, but like what's coming after that?
**Mallory Rubin** (4:02)
Yeah.
**Joanna Robinson** (4:03)
Nothing?
**Mallory Rubin** (4:04)
Well, that would be upsetting. I mean, there's gotta be a sweet spot between we have 15 shows a year, and the quality continues to dip, and we don't make season two of Wonder Man.
**Joanna Robinson** (4:13)
If the idea is to sort of like, you know, and Brad Wunderbaum is certainly hoping this is the case, the guy is in charge of Marvel TV, but like if the idea is to temporarily cut down, cut all the way back on that, in order to pour all of their attention and focus into the movie landscape, which has needed some help, has been quite shaky. We, spoiler, really liked this Spider-Man movie that we're about to talk about, so that's a good indicator. And they're certainly hoping Doomsday hits as well, if not better.
