If you've got a business idea that you've been sitting on, this is the time of year to do something with it. We've used Shopify for the AoM Store for years, and my love about it is how easy it is to get a business where you're selling stuff up and running quickly. You don't need to know how to build a website. Shopify's pre-built themes and AI site builder lets you launch professional-looking store without ever touching a line of code. And once the store is live, you can sell everywhere people shop, online, in-person, across social media, and even in AI chats. When customers show up, the checkout works. Shopify checkout with ShopPay converts up to 36% higher than the competition, meaning more customers actually buy. Shopify powers millions of businesses worldwide, from household names to small businesses just getting started. The reason to move now is Black Friday. Launch before it and you're open during the time of year when more people are already shopping and ready to buy instead of scrambling to build a store while everyone else is selling. If you're ready to launch your business before Black Friday, go to shopify.com/manliness to start your free trial. That's shopify.com/manliness. Go to shopify.com/manlinesstoday to hear your first.

Things are getting busy in the MacKay household between sports and school activities. We're running around most afternoons and evenings. Some nights, there's no time for a home-cooked meal. But we don't want to eat fast food either. That's kind of gross all the time. That's where Factor comes in. Factor makes chef-crafted, dietitian-designed meals so you don't have to choose between real food and convenience. There's no prep and no cleanup, and a meal is ready in two minutes. So even in the days the schedule is out of control, you can still eat well. Factor bans over 175 ingredients, and every meal is built around what supports a healthier lifestyle. There are over 100 menu items every week, plus new options like salmon burgers, shredded pork, collard greens. They're always adding stuff to it. My favorite lately has been the roasted garlic chicken. And 97% of users agree, Factor meals help them live a healthier life. I use Factor, and you should too. Let's eat real. Head to factorymeals.com/manliness50off and use code manliness50off to get 50% off and one free breakfast item per box for one year while supplies last until October 31st, 2026 That's code manliness50off. So that's M-A-N-L-I-N-E-S-S-5-0-O-F-F at factorymeals.com/manliness50off.

We live in a world of pervasive noise. Even when we're alone and our surroundings are quiet, our device is bombarded with an endless stream of inputs, messages, news, opinions, entertainment, and we feel constantly connected. My guest argues that this lack of both silence and solitude isn't just generating stress and fragmenting our attention, but doing real damage to our souls. His name is John Mark Comer, and he's a pastor and the author of Into the Quiet. Today in the show, we discuss what noise is doing to the deepest parts of us, and how engaging in silence and solitude can help us cultivate inner stillness. We explore the monastic tradition behind these spiritual disciplines, why engaging them can sometimes feel like a negative experience, and what happens when all our usual distractions disappear.

We also get into simple ways to bring more quiet into everyday life.

All right. John Mark Comer, welcome to the show.

John Mark Comer (3:53)

Very happy to be back with you, Brad. Thank you.

Brett McKay (3:56)

So we had you on the show about two years ago to talk about the idea of spiritual disciplines, which you explored this in your book, Practicing the Way. And two of the spiritual disciplines we briefly discussed are solitude and silence. Well, you got a new book out where you just go deep into these two spiritual disciplines. It's called Into the Quiet. What prompted you to really dig into solitude and silence?

John Mark Comer (4:21)

Brad, I spend a fair bit of time in the quiet corners of my noisy and busy life as a dad and worker and all that kind of stuff, sneaking away to quiet places to just come to peace and find stillness and in my case to pray.
