It's Thursday, and it's my favorite day of the year, National Apple Dumpling Day.

SPEAKER_2 (0:06)

Whoa, yes!

Romesh Ranganathan (0:09)

Oh my god, we love an apple dumpling, don't we?

Shanthi Ranganathan (0:11)

I love it, yeah.

Romesh Ranganathan (0:12)

Apple dumpling, yes please, yum yum.

SPEAKER_4 (0:16)

What is it, what's an apple dumpling?

Romesh Ranganathan (0:17)

Well, the clue's in the name, it's a dumpling with apple.

SPEAKER_4 (0:20)

An apple fritter?

Romesh Ranganathan (0:21)

Apple dumpling, in my tummy, I love apple dumpling.

SPEAKER_4 (0:27)

Apple strudel?

Romesh Ranganathan (0:28)

Yeah, after having an apple dumpling, I go to the toilet and have an apple dump. Oh. It's a fun, fun day. I've never heard of apple dumplings before in my life.

To be honest with you, I've got no idea.

SPEAKER_4 (0:39)

Is it like a dim sum dumpling? No.

Romesh Ranganathan (0:43)

It's like an apple pie, I guess. Oh, Jesus.

SPEAKER_4 (0:49)

Apple pie is good.

Romesh Ranganathan (0:50)

Apple pie is good, yeah. That looks quite nice.

SPEAKER_4 (0:53)

They just put a whole apple in that one.

Romesh Ranganathan (0:55)

Yeah, it's an apple dumpling.

SPEAKER_4 (0:57)

They just wrapped a whole apple in pastry.

SPEAKER_5 (0:58)

Yeah, apple dumpling.

Romesh Ranganathan (1:00)

Apple dump-ling.

SPEAKER_5 (1:02)

You've gone from never hearing of an apple dumpling to me about how they should be made.

SPEAKER_4 (1:06)

That's a real insight into me.

Romesh Ranganathan (1:13)

It looks quite nice though, doesn't it?

What do you think, Ben? John, would you like an apple dumpling?

SPEAKER_5 (1:20)

Absolutely not. That looks awful.

Romesh Ranganathan (1:21)

Ben?

SPEAKER_4 (1:22)

I think if it was chopped and stewed with sugar, brown sugar, a bit of butter.

Romesh Ranganathan (1:27)

Okay. So a completely different dish. Do you know what I'd like if it was like with chicken curry and rice and they mix it together?

I'll tell you what you'd love, chicken biryani day. Georgie, apple dumpling?

SPEAKER_5 (1:46)

I think it looks alright, yeah.

Romesh Ranganathan (1:48)

Mom, apple dumpling?

Shanthi Ranganathan (1:49)

Yeah, love it. I haven't had it, but I like to have it with hot ice cream. Warm, hot ice cream.

Romesh Ranganathan (1:57)

Do you know, you can have deep fried ice cream, can't you?

Shanthi Ranganathan (2:03)

No, I only heard that.

SPEAKER_4 (2:05)

Deep fried Mars bar?

SPEAKER_5 (2:06)

Mars bar.

Romesh Ranganathan (2:07)

Deep fried ice cream.

SPEAKER_5 (2:08)

How?

Romesh Ranganathan (2:09)

If I was talking about deep fried Mars bar, I would have said deep fried Mars bar.

SPEAKER_5 (2:12)

Deep fried ice cream.

Romesh Ranganathan (2:13)

You're sure? It's a frozen...

SPEAKER_4 (2:16)

You mean baked Alaska when they put the meringue in?

Romesh Ranganathan (2:18)

Yes, it's like that, but it's taken to another extreme. It's deep fried ice cream.

SPEAKER_4 (2:21)

But no, but you can't, meringue, you have to cook batter through, don't you?

Romesh Ranganathan (2:25)

It's deep fried ice cream.

SPEAKER_4 (2:27)

Yeah.

SPEAKER_5 (2:28)

I never...

SPEAKER_4 (2:29)

I think you're thinking of baked Alaska, which is a...

SPEAKER_5 (2:31)

Yeah, I know, baked Alaska. I love it, yeah.

Shanthi Ranganathan (2:35)

How do you fry ice cream, Romesh?

Romesh Ranganathan (2:38)

It's, have you heard of baked Alaska?

Every Thursday, we hang out and have a go, answer your questions, dilemmas. Sometimes we get the old story or observation. I'm joined by my mother, Shanthi Ranganathan, and the team of fucking creatures.

SPEAKER_4 (2:53)

We haven't written that.

Romesh Ranganathan (2:55)

No, you haven't, but it just keeps popping in the old gobby. That's what can sometimes happen on National Apple Dumpling Day. You never know how Apple Dumpling Day is going to go.

How are you today?

Shanthi Ranganathan (3:14)

I'm fine.

Romesh Ranganathan (3:17)

Do you like that? Yeah.

Shanthi Ranganathan (3:20)

I'm fine. Thank you.

Romesh Ranganathan (3:24)

Mom, do you know how you love QVC? Yeah. Could you big up the show like it's an item on QVC?

It's going to, you need to listen to the show. It's got big laughs, it's guaranteed to make you smile, etc. And then welcome to The Romesh Ranganathan Show. Just down the camera, please.

Shanthi Ranganathan (3:40)

How am I going to do that?

Let me try.

I'm trying to have a look at this bracelet. How beautiful it is. So it's shiny and makes your hand look very elegant. And I loved it since I bought it. So much luck came towards me. So I want you to try that as well and enjoy. And please buy this type of bangles. It gives you a lot of luck. Welcome to Romesh Ranganathan Show.

Romesh Ranganathan (4:21)

Really good. Really good. Okay.
