Hello, by the way, I'm gonna do this. A couple of people have messaged me, saying that when I started the episode, swearing.
**Shanthi Ranganathan** (0:07)
Yeah, it's not good.
**Romesh Ranganathan** (0:09)
Well, sometimes it pulls an episode through when you're listening to something else.
Like, they might be listening to the end of, I don't know, whatever other shit podcasts are out there. And then it clicks to ours, and then I go, what's up, motherfuckers? And then it causes a big issue, because they weren't expecting it. If you're expecting it, you know it's gonna be a bloody raucous fuckfest on this podcast. And also, another thing that people are saying is that I swear in front of you.
**Shanthi Ranganathan** (0:37)
I don't mind at all. Yeah. I don't mind.
**Romesh Ranganathan** (0:39)
You don't give a fuck, do you?
**Shanthi Ranganathan** (0:40)
I don't give a fuck.
**Romesh Ranganathan** (0:41)
Yeah. See?
**Shanthi Ranganathan** (0:43)
It's true.
**Romesh Ranganathan** (0:45)
So, there we go. Okay. So, anyway, so now that we've got that out of the way without any swearing. Hello and welcome to another first day edition of The Romesh Ranganathan Show. For anyone new to the show, and we're expanding all the time, aren't we? We are. We're like meta. We're going to bring out some nonce glasses soon. We answer your questions and dilemmas, and there's obviously some role play, which sometimes people ask for, most of the time they don't. The role plays are going down really well, aren't they?
Aren't they? Do you know the role plays?
**Shanthi Ranganathan** (1:18)
No.
**Romesh Ranganathan** (1:19)
Okay. You know where we pretend we do like a little scene?
**Shanthi Ranganathan** (1:23)
Yeah, that I do understand.
**Romesh Ranganathan** (1:25)
As always, I'm joined by my mother, Shanthi Ranganathan and the team.
**Shanthi Ranganathan** (1:35)
It's The Romesh Ranganathan Show with me, Shanthi.
**Romesh Ranganathan** (1:42)
For those of you new to the show, please don't ask to see the team. They are hideous. Last week, we had our art special, and mum and I revealed how we really feel about each other. By painting each other, and mum painted a very sort of tiny, sort of, I would say it was like me.
Like say, if I was a plum, mum's drawing would be a prune. Like it's really shrunk down and sort of shriveled and stuff. And I drew for some reason Jimmy Savile.
**Shanthi Ranganathan** (2:14)
Do I look like Jimmy Savile?
**Romesh Ranganathan** (2:16)
No, but.
**Shanthi Ranganathan** (2:16)
Then you are imagining that.
**Romesh Ranganathan** (2:18)
No, I don't think you look like Jimmy Savile.
**Shanthi Ranganathan** (2:21)
Because of my nose, you enlarged it, didn't you?
**Romesh Ranganathan** (2:25)
I didn't enlarge it. What happened was, I was looking at you quite in detail. I mean, I was just looking at you.
**Shanthi Ranganathan** (2:30)
You didn't look like you look like me.
**Romesh Ranganathan** (2:31)
I was looking at you and I was doing, like I was following the shape of your actual face. And I was actually looking at you quite a lot as I was doing it.
And so I guess the point I'm trying to make is, I don't think you look like Jimmy Savile, I think you share some core elements.
**Shanthi Ranganathan** (2:46)
Oh my god. Because what I mean is that-
**Romesh Ranganathan** (2:49)
Like.
**Shanthi Ranganathan** (2:51)
God. Jimmy Savile?
**Romesh Ranganathan** (2:53)
Visually.
**Shanthi Ranganathan** (2:54)
You couldn't find it?
**Romesh Ranganathan** (2:54)
Visually, yeah, yeah. Yeah, visually, yeah, yeah. I would say not everything, just visually and hobbies.
**Shanthi Ranganathan** (3:02)
What hobbies, Rami? Putting me down into that, why?
**Romesh Ranganathan** (3:09)
No, I mean you like jewelry, don't you?
**Shanthi Ranganathan** (3:13)
I never seen Jimmy's only thick chain he used to wear. That's all.
**Romesh Ranganathan** (3:17)
Yeah, yeah.
**Shanthi Ranganathan** (3:17)
That's all. And the hat, and the hat.
**Romesh Ranganathan** (3:19)
In case anybody's accidentally clicked onto this episode, I think we've started pretty clean.
**Shanthi Ranganathan** (3:24)
Yeah.
**Romesh Ranganathan** (3:27)
Said fuck three times, talked about nonce glasses, and then said mum looks like a Savile.
**Shanthi Ranganathan** (3:33)
He really upset me, Rami. What has upset you?
**Romesh Ranganathan** (3:35)
You don't really look like Savile. Obviously, mum, you're beautiful.
**Shanthi Ranganathan** (3:38)
Your drawing is rubbish.
**Romesh Ranganathan** (3:40)
Okay. Yeah.
**Shanthi Ranganathan** (3:42)
Painting. All right.
**Romesh Ranganathan** (3:43)
Feels like you're taking pot shots now because you're upset about the Savile thing. I don't really think you look like Jimmy Savile. I think you're gorgeous. I think you're stunning.
**Shanthi Ranganathan** (3:50)
I don't want you to say those things.
**Romesh Ranganathan** (3:52)
