Hello, and welcome to Second Helpings. This week, we have director and writer, the phenomenal Emerald Fennell, coming around to Lennie's for Tarragon Chicken and Banana Ice Cream. It was when Promising Young Woman, which starred Carey Mulligan, it just come out and it's such a great film.

She is such an interesting director and people love working with her. Of course, she directed Wuthering Heights and Saltburn, which she's a fantastic female director.

She talked about her time in Call The Midwife, playing Patsy.

She was pregnant at the time. Were you pregnant at that time as well?

**Jessie Ware** (1:17)
Yeah, we must have both been pregnant because I was, it's July 2021 and that's when my son was born. Classic me, working till the edge. No maternity leave for me.

So how are you? How is life post the most mental...

Has this been the most mental year of your life?

**Lennie Ware** (2:45)
Yeah.

And throwing the mix of baby too and stuff.

**Emerald Fennell** (2:47)
Yeah, I think so. I mean, I actually feel like the last three years have been a sort of... And like people say, a whirlwind, but I don't really know how else to describe it because I feel like I've been just not, you know, living... Also, especially because of COVID, like living my normal life with my lovely husband. We've been together forever, you know, at home. But then all this other stuff, you know, the work stuff has all just been going mad all out, all around it.
So, yeah, I feel like after this baby, which is due in a couple of weeks, I'm going to take a couple of months off, which I haven't, I didn't do for the last one. And it's been, yeah, I'm just, I'm just, I can feel it's that thing. I was trying to explain it to someone. It's a bit like when you've been on a really long car journey and you've needed the loo the whole time, but you've held in and then you can see your front door and you're like, oh no, it's happening. It's that last moment. So I think I'm a couple of weeks away and then I can just fill my whole body like, sort of the opposite, like a sort of staggering kind of in the desert, sort of in rags, sunburned.
