Bo Nix feels healthy and normal with no limitations. He said after practice, quote, nothing is holding me back. In fact, he believes he's ahead of where he was last year at this time. And he said, I think that will show up on the field. So very exciting things from Bo. In fact, he also said that his leadership has grown drastically from year one as a rookie to year three. He said as a rookie, he was just trying to not mess things up and now he's trying to make plays. And we've seen that on the field already in this training camp. And I'll get to that in just a second. But one of the things that's a big topic of conversation with Bo is his ankle, that health of his ankle. He is not wearing a boot, obviously. He's not wearing a brace. He's not even wearing a taped up ankle. He looks really good out there. Sean Payton said one of his super powers is his off schedule plays. And that's why Bo said he's absolutely not going to stop running. Bo Nix is going to continue to use his super power of his legs on the ground throughout the season and for many seasons to come as well. Now Bo is kind of entering a semi contract year right now. And he said the way he approaches contract years is it's no different than any other year because every year he says is a contract year in his mind. So there's not extra pressure on him this year. And he really does seem like someone that is cool under pressure and he doesn't even have that pressure in his mind right there. And so as for practice today, we were fortunate to talk to Bo after practice. That's the update you need. But at practice today, Bo made a couple of big time plays in seven on sevens. He dropped a perfect pass in tight coverage to RJ Harvey on a wheel route. There were like two or three guys around RJ and Bo dropped it right in the money, about 20 yards downfield. And RJ could have taken off for more as well. And then in a team period, Bo Nix used his superpower of his mobility, kind of off a little play action with some people in his face. He was able to get out to the right side, find Pat Bryant open about 40 yards down the field, hit Pat, Pat caught it, then made a little shimmy to get the safety out of the way and then took it to the house for a touchdown. So Bo Nix started out practice real hot. I'm going to get to the rest of practice and what Bo did in just a second. But we might have a little quarterback competition brewing. This was the first day that Sam Ehlinger took reps ahead of Jarrett Stidham. The first three days of practice, the first training camp practice and the two acclimation days, it was Jarrett Stidham as expected as the backup quarterback. But today Sam Ehlinger taking reps ahead of Jarrett Stidham. Now that's what we saw on the field after practice. Sean said, come on, don't read into this. Sean was asked if there's anything to read into and he said no, he wouldn't make anything of it were the words that he used. So we'll see, we'll see how specifically the preseason games play out. But that is an interesting note that Ehlinger having a couple of snaps ahead of Jarrett Stidham now before we get to more in today, make sure to like and subscribe to this video. And let's get to the rest of what we learned today because the Broncos were the big play Broncos today.
As the number three quarterback, Jarrett Stidham held nothing back. Stidham hit a wide open Hakeem Butler for a 70 yard touchdown on the left sideline. Hakeem was wide open and Jarrett slid this ball to him. It was a deep pass, 70 yard touchdown and Stidham wasn't done. At the end of practice, he hit Marvin Mims Jr for a 50 yard touchdown. And this was a picture perfect play. Coverage was good, the pass was great. The catch was even better. I mean, steady drop this thing. It was a deep post from Marvin Mims. Marvin was absolutely flying about right when he got to the middle of the field. Stidham led him perfectly and put it right in the bread basket. Marvin caught it, touchdown Broncos. So two big plays from Jarrett Stidham there. And after practice, Payton said that once again, Marvin Mims needs more touches. And I think all of Broncos Country can agree on that. Let's give Marvin more touches because he has had a fantastic, fantastic start to camp. And of course, Nix had that 40-yard touchdown to Pat Bryant where Pat put on that shimmy at the end to get in the end zone. But outside of those big plays, the defense struck back after the offense won yesterday. The defense won today after Bo Nix had that huge pass to Pat Bryant at the very beginning of practice. That was the first throw of team. The defense absolutely clam down. Waddle had one catch. But until then, those were the only two catches that the defense allowed against first team offense until the final team period where Jalen Waddle made a great catch on Pat Surtain, which is obviously noticeable or notable because Pat Surtain is the best cornerback in the league. There was a little blitz coming off. And so Bo had to get rid of the ball quickly. Waddle quick slant. The speed just was able to allow him to get separation off of Pat. Pat probably would have made the tackle, but still impressive to see that Jalen Waddle was able to get open right there. But outside of that and the big play, defense was absolutely clamped down. The balls were batted down at the line of scrimmage, smacked down by the defensive backs on numerous occasions. And the pass rush also made Nix's life tough and force multiple throwaways, some into the ground, some just overthrows where he had to get the ball away. The defense did not like how the offense won yesterday and they made that clear on the field today. The defense won the end of practice too. The end of practice, we had a situation. The Broncos offense had the ball on their own 24 yard line with a minute and one left down two.
