Spike, Jonny, and Zuckerman take the stage live at the 75th Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance for their annual charity show. They break down the biggest reveals from The Quail, dig into collector car market trends, and field Q&A from a crowd that clearly knows too much about cars.
Speakers: Cindy McGrane, Spike Feresten, Paul Zuckerman, Jonny

Topics: Automotive, Leisure

Spike's Car Radio starts now.

**Cindy McGrane** (0:07)
Why don't we welcome on stage, Spike Feresten, and Jonny and Paul.

**SPEAKER_3** (0:15)
Hello, hello.

**Spike Feresten** (0:17)
Cindy McGrane, ladies and gentlemen. You did a wonderful job.
Just as a reminder, we make no money. You can just tip us after. We're excited to be here on the 75th anniversary of Pebble Beach. I can't believe we've been coming here for 75 years. We're all going to do a show together. We do the show on Saturday morning at 10 o'clock, and today, you guys are going to be part of it. So we're going to talk for a little bit, and then we're going to throw it out to you for things to talk about, or if you have questions, you can talk into the microphone, say your name. You'll be in the show next week. We'll all take a picture, and we even have a couple of watches to give away, and a jacket, and we'll have a good time. How does that sound? Sound good?

**Cindy McGrane** (1:06)
Yeah.

**Spike Feresten** (1:06)
All right. What the hell happened to Jerry?
He said he was going drinking with Brad Pitt, and that's the last we heard of him.

**Cindy McGrane** (1:16)
Yeah.

**Spike Feresten** (1:17)
I suspect because he just made, did you see he made that big Netflix deal for the series, that he's in the gooding tent buying everything.

**Paul Zuckerman** (1:25)
Absolutely.

**Spike Feresten** (1:26)
That's what I think is going on. But he's selling cars there too, right?

**Paul Zuckerman** (1:30)
Couple.

**Spike Feresten** (1:31)
Couple cars. All right. Well, this is good. We're going to have a good time today. Did you guys know this was founded, this whole place was founded in 1950?
The first Concours at Pebble Beach was 1950, and they had it set up on the practice tee and driving range of the Beach Club. Did you know this, Jonny?

**Jonny** (1:51)
I didn't know that last part, but I knew about the 1950

**Spike Feresten** (1:54)
Do you know how many cars they had, the first one?

**Jonny** (1:56)
Oh, very few.

**Spike Feresten** (1:57)
30

**Jonny** (1:57)
Yeah, there you go.

**Spike Feresten** (1:58)
And it went so well the following year, they had 23 cars. It's true. And it sounded like it was off to a really slow start. They've continued since 1950, only missing one year in 1960, when it was canceled due to scheduling conflicts.
The Kauffman wedding was reserved. For their daughter Julie.

**Jonny** (2:25)
Okay.

**Spike Feresten** (2:26)
No, I'm just making that up.

**Jonny** (2:28)
They also missed 2020 for some reason.

**Spike Feresten** (2:31)
No, they missed a couple of years because of heavy rains.
And it seems like part of the Concours is, they seem to have natural disasters a lot. And this year, there's that big timber fire going on there. Anyway, most folks who listen to us can't really come to this event. So I thought I would start with, and I haven't even had a chance to talk to you, but what have you seen? What's going on this year? We didn't go to Quail. What was Quail like?

**Jonny** (2:56)
I went to Quail. Quail was Quail.
It was, I think this is my 16th year at Pebble Beach and probably my 14th Quail. And it, I was, you know, you look online and I think part of the problem with sacrifice, sacrificing our brains to the social media algorithm is that you gotta have a hot take and be negative instantly and there's no nuance. And so everyone, you know, before Pebble started this show, everyone's like, everything sucks. It's worse than ever. It's gonna be awful. Quail's gonna suck, blah, blah, blah. And I was looking around like, this looks like Quail from 17 years ago, the first time I went. It felt the same, same people, same idea. Yeah, it was great. I mean, if you like.

**Spike Feresten** (3:37)
But there were some cool new cars that were put out there, right? I mean, the first thing that I saw wasn't even at Quail was this McLaren.

**Jonny** (3:44)
McLaren.

**Spike Feresten** (3:44)
What's that car? I think we have a picture of it right here.

**Jonny** (3:46)
It's the really pitifully named McLaren Mcl6 Gt.

**Spike Feresten** (3:54)
Really?

**Jonny** (3:55)
I think it's the actual name they're going with.

**Spike Feresten** (3:57)
But I get excited when I saw it.

**Jonny** (3:59)
It's a great car.

**Spike Feresten** (4:00)
The best looking McLaren I've seen in years. I don't know what you folks think. Do you like this? It's got a manual gearbox, right?

**Jonny** (4:06)
That's cool. Yeah, V8 manual. Yeah, there it is.
