Good evening, hello, hello.
Can I please get Scott Phillips into the hot seat and Jess Leung wherever you are? Scott Phillips, One Page Investment Plan is coming, thank you.
Jess Leung, Global X, to the seats, please. Okay, just you're in the hot seat in the middle there, mate. Thank you, ladies and the few gentle men.
So, my name is Owen and if you don't know, we have a few podcasts at Rask, and we're going to be recording one of those live here right now. So, anything you say or do may be used in evidence against you. Tomorrow morning, I believe on The Australian Investors Podcast. So, we're here at City Recital Hall in Sydney, and it's been an absolutely wonderful event with Mel and the team. This has been an absolute delight. Second year running, bigger and better venue this year, and we're very, very happy for that. To see so many ladies here today is just a real credit to you all, but also to what Mel's community can do. Before we get to the actual answers to your questions, just a quick warning. We are strictly general in nature on this panel. If we do talk about ETFs, I'm going to say Jess is going to mention an ETF at least once. So you can go and read the PDS and TMD that is available probably on the Global X website. And also, please do not act on the information until you have spoken to your financial planner. If you don't have one, monysmart.gov.au is a great place to start. Okay. So with me tonight, I have Scott Phillips, the author of The One Page Investing Plan. And Scott, what's the joke with the title of the book?
Scott Phillips (3:01)
Thank you, Owen. Yes. I have been asked a dozen times today, why a one page investing plan has 388 pages.
Those of you with a book will know, there's not 387 blank pages. So I get away with that, that's okay. So yes, it's a one page investing plan that I spent 388 pages to explain, which probably says more about my writing than the investing plan.
Owen Raszkiewicz (3:28)
For those of you that don't know, Scott is the Chief Investment Officer of The Motley Fool Australia. He's also the one that you can blame for me also being so interested in investing. So Scott was my mentor at The Motley Fool before I started Rask. He's also a director here at City Recital Hall. So we've kind of come full circle and he's been involved with this organization since 2020 Jess Leung, you heard speak earlier today. Jess is a portfolio manager at Global X. Dare I say it, the most followed portfolio manager, at least at an ETF provider in Australia. Something you should also know is that whenever we put Jess Leung in the title of a Rask podcast, we get three times the amount of views. So, now that's not to make her sweat from all the pressure, but she definitely has so many great things to say, and she's also available on Instagram and on TikTok. She does a lot of financial education work, a lot of investment literacy stuff, really easy to digest and just understand what's going on. So, with that said, if you have one of these cards in front of you, you will find a question on the back.
You don't have to ask that question, you can ask just about any question, and we'll do our best to answer it. But if you get stuck, you can ask one of these questions.
I might start with Scott because you're right next to me, and then we'll maybe pass to Jess. Scott, you do a lot of radio.
How many interview segments or things have you done today?
Scott Phillips (5:05)
There was a little AI company called Firmus you may have heard about, and as a result, I think this is the 13th time I've been speaking about investing, not just in my office at home. So I've done three TVs and at least seven easily, radio pieces through the today, not a normal day to be fair, but it's been a very busy day. I had to pull over on the freeway on the way from Barrell to here, to actually do one of those interviews. Such was the interest in that story today.
