Well, welcome back to The Bliss Business Podcast series Scaling with Purpose, our bite-sized series where we explore how to embed purpose into every level of your organization. I'm Steven Skash here with Tulio Siragusa and Ash Maher. Hey, guys.

**Ash Maher** (0:31)
Hello.

**Tulio Siragusa** (0:32)
Purposeful.

**Ash Maher** (0:34)
Yes.

**Steven Skash** (0:34)
All right. So today, today we're focusing on purpose as the core of business operations, how purpose can influence day-to-day operations, making even routine tasks feel meaningful and aligned. Let's dive in.
So when I think about purpose, it's often at this level. And I know when we think about purpose, it's sort of that big picture strategy or leadership kind of thing. But really, when it really works best is when you can get purpose that translates into your everyday operations, into the decisions, the processes, into the actions that happen on the ground. I think this concept is really one of the biggest takeaways of this entire series. It goes with our Bliss philosophy of Build Love Into Scalable Systems, because when you start getting into the very fine details of your business and you infuse that with purpose, it really does start to change everything.

**Tulio Siragusa** (1:34)
And in the last episode, we talked about the importance of creativity in coming up with innovation, collaborating, taking risks, and all that's fine to come up with great ideas, but if you don't have a way to execute on those ideas that aligns with your company's purpose, then they'll fall flat. So really, it's not an abstract idea, this idea of purpose. It's a guide to how work gets done. And innovation is part of the work that gets done, which we discussed in the last episode. So when purpose is infused, for example, in the day-to-day operations, even in small tasks, it takes a grain of meaning because every employee sees their efforts connected to the bigger picture. So it also feeds the desire, which is one of the key desires for employees, to have meaning behind what they're doing. And you have to infuse it in your day-to-day operations in order for it to come to life.

**Steven Skash** (2:34)
Yeah. So when purpose is integrated in that daily work, it provides clarity and focus. Employees, they don't just complete tasks because they have to do it. They do them because they see how their actions contribute to the organization's mission. And that builds encouragement as well as accountability.

**Ash Maher** (2:53)
Yeah. And I absolutely agree with you, Steve. I mean, really what it does is streamlines decision-making. When everyone's aligned to a specific purpose, then they're able to prioritize their task without having to run, asking for permission to run things by you because everyone is aligned.
Not only is it more efficient, but it builds trust within the system. It further aligns us when you're able to allow that autonomy within your department or organization. When employees feel like you trust them and they know what the purpose is, you are able to then trust them that things are going to get done the way it's supposed to be done.

**Tulio Siragusa** (3:25)
Exactly. So it impacts the employee experience. And because the purpose is the driving force, the quote unquote boss, they gain a lot of autonomy. Now, let's not forget about the customer experience as well. Because when purpose is imbedded into the daily operations, it's also reflected on how you deliver products and services. For example, if your purpose is sustainability, it should show up on your supply chain, your packaging, and even how your customer service interacts with its customers.

**Steven Skash** (4:00)
Yeah. So let's talk about how to make purpose a core part of your business operations. Tulio, tell us about the purpose-driven design process.

**Tulio Siragusa** (4:09)
So the first thing you want to do is evaluate your current processes through the lenses of your purpose. If you haven't defined your purpose as a business, that probably would be a good step first. Maybe go back to episode number one in this series. That's probably a good way to work your way towards this step. But if your purpose has been defined, then you want to also design the processes that are supporting it. So you want to ask questions when you're evaluating whether you have alignment, you want to ask questions like, does this process align with our mission and values? That's probably the most important question you want to ask. Everyone should be able to ask that question, and the answer should be the same. I mean, really, it's a yes or a no, right?
