S4E42 Travels With Joy - Copenhagen 10/18/2026

Joy McKeon (0:06)

Welcome to Murder and Everything Else. My name is Joy.

Cheryl Yamaguchi (0:10)

And my name is Cheryl. Joy and I are two very old friends who love to talk about murder and everything else.

Joy McKeon (0:18)

As you all know, or maybe you don't know, Hurricane Isaias is barreling down on us and has left us with lots of rain and humid weather.

Cheryl Yamaguchi (0:34)

Of course, they're not going to hear this till two weeks after.

Joy McKeon (0:37)

But it's been downgraded to a tropical cyclone instead of a hurricane. But it did make landfall around the Gulf States last night or this morning.

Obviously, I'm not a meteorologist, but guys, stay safe. If you see lots of standing water, do not drive through it. Get out of your car and run away.

Cheryl Yamaguchi (1:02)

As Joy advised.

Joy McKeon (1:03)

As I like to tell people, my professional opinion is to get out of your car, abandon the car, and turn and run in the opposite direction.

Cheryl Yamaguchi (1:14)

What you want to do is get out of your car and swim.

Joy McKeon (1:18)

That's right. Anywho, rain, rain, rain. It's going to be raining today. It's going to be raining tomorrow.

Cheryl Yamaguchi (1:22)

It's a cyclone.

Joy McKeon (1:23)

A cyclone is a storm that has been downgraded from a hurricane. Thanks. I told you, I'm not a meteorologist. I just play one on this podcast.

Anywho, I want to tell you that this week, I have kind of like, it's not really a retraction, but I'm kind of expounding on something I said. In the Micah Miller episode, I talked about scripture from the Good Book, and it talked about submitting yourself to your husband. And so I looked it up just to make sure, and it appears twice in the Book of Ephesians, once in the Book of Colossians, and once in 1 Peter. And it basically says, wives, submit yourselves to your husbands as is fitting in the Lord. Now, we did talk about how that is up for a lot of interpretation.

Cheryl Yamaguchi (2:14)

Well, yeah, what's his name? Miller really had his own interpretation, which I think was far from what the Lord means.

Joy McKeon (2:25)

Well, and later on, it says in another verse, it says in 1 Peter, it says, wives, in the same way, submit yourselves to your husbands so that if any of them do not believe the word, they may be won over without words by behavior of their wives. So it could have meant like, just live a good example so that your spouse will see that example. It doesn't necessarily mean you are going to be having sex with homeless people that your husband brought in from a bus stop.

Cheryl Yamaguchi (2:54)

I really don't think that's what it is.

Joy McKeon (2:56)

And also five times a day, so you got to take testosterone so you grow chest hair. I mean, I just don't, I still, I'm like, ew, like, and remember, he looked like a weasel. So anyway, Cheryl.

Cheryl Yamaguchi (3:09)

Thank you, I'm glad you agree.

Joy McKeon (3:10)

I'm gonna give you the first update today because I have a whole laundry list of them.

Cheryl Yamaguchi (3:16)

Oh, so do I. And I might be taking some of yours. But anyway, when this drops, we're going to be two weeks into the Faith HedgePath trial.

Joy McKeon (3:29)

That last name sounds almost like a, like not real.

Cheryl Yamaguchi (3:33)

Well, she was-

Joy McKeon (3:33)

HedgePath.

Cheryl Yamaguchi (3:35)

Yeah.

Joy McKeon (3:35)

HedgePedge.

Cheryl Yamaguchi (3:37)

She was murdered in 2012

And it took 14 years for this to go to trial, but it is finally at trial. Is that- It's Miguel Salaguero Olivares is on trial.

Joy McKeon (3:59)

That's the UNC student that was raped and killed, right?

Cheryl Yamaguchi (4:03)

Yeah, she was found in her bed by her roommate. And everybody suspected the roommate, Carina-

Oh my gosh, I can't think of her last name right now. But- And I was suspicious of her when I heard her 911 call, but when I watched her on the stand, she's just very soft spoken. And now I have no doubts of the 911 call. I don't think she was faking. I think she was traumatized. Anyway, so it's on trial and I am going to do, the trial is on and I am going to do an episode on it.

And then are you going to talk about Christa Pike and the botched lethal injection?

Joy McKeon (4:47)

No.

Cheryl Yamaguchi (4:48)

Well, I'm just going to say that she's walking and talking now, isn't she? Is she walking?
