Joy McKeon (0:06)

Welcome to Murder and Everything Else. My name is Joy.

Cheryl Yamaguchi (0:10)

And my name is Cheryl. Joy and I are two very old friends who love to talk about murder and everything else.

So, Joy, you know, by the time this drops, there will, there better be, it's the Lindsay Clancy Trial. I'm obsessed. Just give me a minute.

Joy McKeon (0:31)

She's obsessed.

Cheryl Yamaguchi (0:32)

Well, now, as we record this, they are in deliberations. And, you know, my prediction is a hung jury.

Because people who just feel like, I don't care if she was having mental health issues, she strangled her three kids, she should do criminal time. And then they're going to be the people who understand mental health illness. Anyway, so by the time this drops, yes, I know, there'll probably be a verdict or a hung jury. But I, so-

Joy McKeon (1:01)

And I also believe she should do criminal time.

Cheryl Yamaguchi (1:04)

Yeah, interesting. Okay, we'll talk about it when we get to her, because I'm going to do an episode that I want to see what the outcome is first. But in doing research already for it, I came across this story that I'd heard a while ago. It was several years back. I think he was in England, but this father killed his 11-year-old son, and he was found not guilty by reason of insanity. So I went to look that story up so I could just talk about it briefly.

And I can't tell you how many stories of fathers killing their sons came up. So I was like, well, I'm not going to just focus in on that one yet. And so many were found not guilty by reason of insanity and were placed in mental hospitals.

Joy McKeon (1:52)

Which by the way, a hospital for the criminally insane is a prison. Is a prison. And it's probably scarier than a prison because not only do you have people who are criminally insane, but you also have people who got mandated to those places who are acting crazy and are not crazy.

Cheryl Yamaguchi (2:11)

And then I agree that could be scarier than prison.

Joy McKeon (2:16)

Oh yeah.

Cheryl Yamaguchi (2:16)

I got it's polarizing. It's very polarizing.

Joy McKeon (2:21)

It is.

Cheryl Yamaguchi (2:22)

I mean, because anyway, we'll have to we'll spend time talking about it when we do the Lindsay Clancy episode.

Joy McKeon (2:29)

Guys, I have a retraction this week. Surprise, surprise.

Cheryl and I didn't plan that by the way. Did I? Did I?

Anyway, several weeks ago, I said that you need to stop your car, get out, turn around if you see a flood. I didn't mean get out. I meant stop the car, just stay in your car, drive away. Don't drive through the floodwater. So the get out part, when I heard that, I was like, why would people get out? Like stop your car, get out, fall into the floodwaters and get washed away. And at least your car will be saved and you will be dead. But then I was like, well, I don't really want people doing that, so I need to issue a retraction. So don't get out of the car.

Cheryl Yamaguchi (3:10)

Yeah, but you know what's worse? You said it, but I didn't correct it. I didn't say, really, you should get out of your car.

Joy McKeon (3:16)

Anyway, this is not a second retraction, but I just had to squeeze in that our youngest child's volleyball season has started. And so we spent the last two days at a tournament. And man, it is so fun.

It's so exciting. And just all that, you know, and then the playlist that they play every season. It's like the same. It starts with the same song, Thunder by ACDC. Thunder! Tick-a-tick-a-tick-a-tick-a-tick! Of course, we're old, so we know that song.

Cheryl Yamaguchi (3:47)

Yeah.

Joy McKeon (3:48)

But so do all these young kids who, you know, were born 18 years ago. Now they know it. I've got the playlist kind of locked in, because I feel like it's the same playlist from last year. Although they did add a couple of new songs. So that was kind of fun. And then they have a new electronic sign that's really cool, and it'll say like go bulldogs and, you know, stuff like that. My kid got to play, which was so exciting.

I mean, she's in her collegiate sports career. So I could tell you last season, she played for five minutes.

Cheryl Yamaguchi (4:23)

So it was very exciting.

Joy McKeon (4:25)

And then to hear the announcer go, it's standing, you know, it's coming in at 5 foot 11 from Pinsirro, North Carolina. It's Viona McGeehan. And he has that like total announcer voice. It was really exciting. Give me goose bumps.
