Absolute ______.
SPEAKER_1 (0:04)
And The Rugby.
Mike Tindall (0:05)
Fold it like a deck chair.
SPEAKER_1 (0:07)
With Payne-o, Lord and The Hask. I don't know what that means.
Alex Payne (0:32)
Away we go once again.
Happy New Year, Dream Team. I hope you're all well. I hope you had a belter.
And here is hoping that 2022 is gonna be a year of years for all of you. A new dawn, all your hopes and dreams, the opportunities that lie before you, the expectations, the promotions, new loves, old friends, the lands of milk and honey on the horizon. And we'll be with you every Wednesday to let you know what's happening for those of us who remain on Planet Binjuice. Hask and The Lord are alongside. Happy New Year, chaps.
SPEAKER_1 (1:00)
Happy New Year.
Alex Payne (1:01)
Resolutions, please.
James Haskell (1:02)
I didn't make one this year. I didn't think about it this year.
Alex Payne (1:06)
Perfect in every way.
James Haskell (1:07)
No, the only one that I ever make was to be, you should be laughing at this, be more direct in conversations with people. Not more direct.
Mike Tindall (1:15)
More direct?
James Haskell (1:16)
No, just having difficult conversations with people.
Mike Tindall (1:19)
Right, do we need to read this? No, I'm nice.
Alex Payne (1:24)
Be nice, Hask.
James Haskell (1:24)
No, nice, I just mean things like, cutting to the chase in business stuff and start skirting around the issue and just go and look.
Alex Payne (1:31)
I would say that's doubling down, not quitting.
James Haskell (1:34)
Oh really?
Alex Payne (1:34)
On your personality.
James Haskell (1:37)
But yeah, maybe because you see it on the side because we do business together, that I have been more direct subsequently.
Alex Payne (1:43)
Yes, you have.
James Haskell (1:43)
The elephant in the room, pick out the elephant.
Alex Payne (1:45)
Lord, how are you going to better yourself this year?
Mike Tindall (1:49)
I might try and, obviously, Doddy Aid is starting in January, so let's get on your bikes, get on your walkers, horses, whatever, get some exercise done.
Might use that to drop as I scale then at just over 108 kilos. So, there's a plan for a few Pakistan rides later on this year, so I'll need to get into a little bit of bike shape. But since the young man's come along, time disappears, which I'm noticing a lot more when you've got three children, so.
Alex Payne (2:17)
Upping the exercise.
Mike Tindall (2:19)
Yeah, because it makes me mentally feel better too.
Alex Payne (2:22)
That does it.
Mike Tindall (2:22)
Yes.
Alex Payne (2:23)
Good promotion.
Should we get into it? How excited are you?
James Haskell (2:26)
Oh, very excited. And nobody else would get me up at 5.3 to drive down to London to interview him.
But he's my man crush.
Alex Payne (2:36)
Right, let's get into it. The year begins with a bang. Normally, we are The Good, The Bad and The Rugby, as you know, but this week we are playing superlatives. This week, we are the greatest, The Bad and The Rugby. In partnership with City Index, the leading provider of spread betting, CFD and FX trading, we are playing today with the boss of The GOAT pen, the patron saint of all black rugby, stand by your beds, ladies and gentlemen. He won 131 test matches, which is more than any other player ever. He was the most capped player in test rugby history at 148 when he retired, although Alan from Wales has slipped by in the outside lane subsequently. He won more Rugby World Cup tests than any other player, 20 ever. And those wins contributed to a couple of back-to-back World Cup victories, as you do.
He's the most capped captain in World Rugby, 110 He's won the most tests as captain, with 97 He's scored more international tries than any other forward, with 27 Hask is shrinking with every stat that we're reading out. And domestically, if that wasn't enough, in his 145 matches for the Crusaders, he won four Super Rugby Championships, three of which is Skipper.
And despite all of that, his wife said of him recently, the most extraordinary thing about him is that he's actually quite ordinary. So he's still got something to work on, at least.
If it wasn't abundantly clear, our guest this week could only be one man. It is the great Richie McCaw. Happy New Year to you. How are you?
Richie McCaw (3:58)
Same to you guys. Yeah, very well, thank you.
