Hey guys, welcome to the first episode of Its a Girl's World. So I'm Millie.
Lulu (0:11)
And I am Lulu.
Millie (0:12)
And we are starting a podcast together, we're so excited. And this episode is actually called, we're doing a little series within our own season. Yes, season.
Lulu (0:21)
It's called Big Sister Advice.
Millie (0:23)
So these episodes are gonna be structured as like dilemmas, and then we'll also cover loads of other topics.
Lulu (0:29)
So basically Big Sister Advice, because we kind of wanna give you advice that you would get from your big sister. Exactly. So someone in the same generation that has like similar issues, and that could maybe give you some good advice.
Millie (0:41)
Yeah, which is so exciting. I'm really looking forward to these episodes. So should we dive into the first dilemma?
Lulu (0:45)
Yes.
Millie (0:46)
So dilemma number one is, is this really it for the rest of my life?
Lulu (0:50)
Ooh.
Millie (0:51)
I'm a female in my late twenties, and I have been in a relationship for four and a half years. There is nothing wrong with our relationship. We love spending time together, going out on holiday, and we're still really affectionate.
However, there is a part of me that wants to be single while I'm still young.
Lulu (1:08)
Yeah, I got that.
Millie (1:09)
The idea of this being it for the rest of my life scares me. This all started when the thought of going to work abroad for a year popped into my mind, and I didn't envision us doing that together.
What should I do?
Lulu (1:21)
Well, let's start off with keep the going abroad aside. I think the going abroad showed you that you don't want this in the first place. If this was the love of your life, you would make it work.
Millie (1:34)
Yeah, that's just kind of an excuse, isn't it?
Lulu (1:35)
I feel so too. But it's good that this popped into your head because this is an indicator that you don't want to be with this person.
Millie (1:42)
Yeah, I agree. It's not good that you're having those thoughts, and if you are, then that's kind of your answer in my mind.
Lulu (1:48)
I feel like you already answered your own dilemma just in the title. Is this really it?
If you're really asked, I mean, I think it's normal when you're-
Millie (1:58)
Everyone's so old. How old is she? I don't know how old, but she's been dating him for four and a half years.
Lulu (2:02)
Okay, let's say she's like beginning her 20s. Yeah.
Millie (2:04)
So say she's like our age, or she's been dating someone for four and a half years.
Lulu (2:08)
Exactly.
Millie (2:09)
No matter how old you are, but like, okay, you're right. If you're a bit older, it definitely is a more common question.
Lulu (2:13)
Yeah, you more think about the future.
Millie (2:15)
Everyone's like, oh God, is this, not oh God, but you do think this is the person I'm gonna spend the rest of my life with, right?
Lulu (2:22)
Especially because after four years, there's this thing, the three-year itch, the seven-year stitch. Yeah.
Millie (2:29)
We talk about this a lot on the podcast.
Lulu (2:31)
It's a thing.
Millie (2:32)
It is a thing. Yeah.
Lulu (2:33)
So I think like after three years, you kind of think, okay, or we go to the next step, like move in together, or if you're at that age, obviously you don't move in together the first year. Well, I didn't.
Millie (2:46)
No, but you do start to think like-
Lulu (2:48)
You take things slowest, but after three years, you're like, okay, should we take it to the next level or not?
Millie (2:54)
In four and a half years, that's a long-
Lulu (2:55)
That's a long time.
Millie (2:56)
Big chunk of your life. So she obviously has love for him. So I could see why she's like, cautious about how she's gonna go about it. But I do think if you're thinking it, then it's kind of not a good sign. Especially if you're thinking about leaving and going to live abroad and not considering doing it together.
Like I've done it where I've gone to live abroad, but I didn't end a relationship, you know? So I think that's where the problem is. She's like considering just like calling it quits, checking out.
Lulu (3:21)
And she's probably gonna use abroad as an excuse. Yeah.
Millie (3:25)
But I think if that's how you're really feeling, then you just need to have an honest conversation with your partner and be like, cause it's not fair for him or you.
