Remember The Game? Retro Gaming Podcast

October 4, 2026

I've been wanting to try some mini episodes for years, and the new NHL Season just started this week, so I figured it was as good of time as any. For a mini debut I'm reminiscing about one of my favourite childhood games: NHL 97 for the SNES!

E, A, 4, it's in the game.

What's up, everybody? Welcome back to Remember The Game. It is my Retro Gaming Podcast. We're every week at BuddyMine, and I sit down and geek out about the games we played back in the day. My name is Adam Blank. Thank you so much for listening to the show. And this week, it is, we're trying something a little bit different.

It's a mini-sode, mini-sode number one. It's been a while since I tried to launch a new show in air quotes. For quite some time now, I've been trying to figure out a way to keep releasing Remember The Game episodes. I've been trying to figure out a way to keep releasing Remember The Game episodes, while also trying to keep up with the games for the Remember The Game episodes. And a lot of classic titles, NES, Super Nintendo, Genesis, Game Boy, they're not really that hard to play to get ready for review. A lot of them I can finish in a couple of three hours. But when you get into the PS2, Xbox 360, Game Boy Advance, so on, generations, they're longer games that I just need more time to play them. So the other thing I've been toying with for a while is how to take on some games I want to talk about on the podcast that just aren't meaty enough bones for a 45 to 60 minute review of Talking. When you think back to the Tubin episode from earlier this year, when I actually got to the review of Tubin, I think it was like 15 minutes. I was like, there's nothing else to say about this. Hence, mini-sodes. These are going to go up just whenever I finish one, and they're going to include the opening blowing in the cartridge segment, and that's all it's going to include for the intro. Then probably just like a 20 to 30 minute game review, just a little appetizer to hold you off until your main podcast course is done.

Now, I didn't intend for the first mini-sode to be NHL 97 I actually had Tetris Attack pegged for the first mini-sode, but I've been playing a lot of NHL 97 the last couple of weeks. The NHL season just started a few days ago, and frankly, I have a spot for this game, easy for me to say, a spot for this game in my heart, as soft as my belly, so I just said, fuck it, let's talk ourselves some classic NHL with NHL 97 And we're going to get to that in just a minute, because before I hit you with a mini-game review, I have to hit you with a mini-famous intro. Intro, fuck, I was so ready to do that, mini-famous intro, god damn it.

SPEAKER_1 (2:32)

Oh, goody.

Adam Blank (2:35)

Now everything about these mini-sodes is going to be shorter and smaller than the irregular episodes, so instead of my normal Patreon plug, I'm just going to say you can give me $3 or more at patreon.com/remember the game, and I'll give you over a thousand podcasts in exchange, ad free Remember The Games, Discord access, vote on this stuff, you know, and all the other things, including a shout out, which I'm going to say for full Remember The Game episodes, shout outs on these, but in the full episodes, shout outs are plenty. So patreon.com/remember the game. There's some free episodes over there. If you want to see how it works, subscription started $3 a month. And if you sign up for a full year, we'll give you a month on the house. All right. That's enough. Blowing myself. Let's blow some of you by blowing in some cartridges. It is our opening segment here on the show. And by popular demand, it is still our opening segment here on the show. You, despite it being a mini sowed, I'll read a few comments and questions from our patrons, usually gaming related, but not always. And we call this segment blowing in the cartridge.

SPEAKER_1 (3:22)

He blows all right.

Adam Blank (3:23)

He blows big time. That's it, honey.

SPEAKER_1 (3:26)

Get into the spirit.

Adam Blank (3:31)

Let's blow our first blower this week is John C500, who says, Hey, Adam, what NES titles are you still looking to add to your physical collection? I came across a pile of games I forgot I had and wouldn't mind sending one across the pond if you needed it. Very grateful for that offer, John. I can't take it. I get quite a few offers from people offering to give me video games, which I'm very humbled by. Thank you very much, everyone, that offers to do that.
