Rough Draft: FLASH MOCK! Plus, Advanced Scouting, Prospect Cross-Check, and Week 6 CFB Picks.

The McShay Show

October 8, 2026

We’re a quarter of the way through the NFL season, which means it’s time for a FLASH MOCK! Todd and Steve go through the first 12 picks and project what would happen if the 2027 NFL draft took place today, starting with a difficult decision for Nick Caserio and the Houston Texans at no. 1.

It's a rough draft Thursday here in The McShay Show. I've got a few for you, Steve. You ready?

Steve Muench (0:11)

Yeah, let's go.

Todd McShay (0:12)

We're getting to the point where regardless of quarterback need or trade offered, the team picking at number one overall should just stick and pick Ohio State wide receiver Jeremiah Smith. No. If the draft were held today and no teams traded up, no more than one quarterback would be selected in the top five based on the draft order right now.

No. There's a Texas offensive tackle making a case to become a late first round draft pick.

Steve Muench (0:45)

Yes.

Todd McShay (0:49)

It drives the competitor in you, Steven Richard Muench, crazy, knowing that I'm about to mention that I've nailed my last two three leg parlays on our fan duel pick three segment.

Steve Muench (1:03)

Never hear the end of it. Never hear the end of it.

Todd McShay (1:05)

Just 203 days until the NFL Draft. Meant you good?

Steve Muench (1:10)

I'm good, man.

Todd McShay (1:11)

Roll my beat, Tuck.

I am excited to share my bonafides when we have our fan-dual pick three segment at the end of the show. But we've got some things to get to. You and I were talking. We had a production call yesterday and just happened to peek. I don't even know what got us on. It happened to peek at the draft order as we were having a conversation as it is right now. And it's you watching the games and you know the standings and you know the records. But then all of a sudden, you'd kind of flip it, you'd flip the standings upside down.

And you look and say, Oh my gosh, the Houston Texans have the number one overall pick of the draft work today.

What would they do? Right.

And then you start projecting forward. What if they actually wind up and they lose enough games where in this season just goes completely sideways. I think most of us expect the Texans are going to rebound.

SPEAKER_3 (3:27)

Right, the ship, yeah.

Todd McShay (3:29)

And maybe they're not the second team ever to go 0-4 and make the playoffs, but at least be a 7 plus win team. They're that good, you know?

Steve Muench (3:41)

I'm with you on that one.

Todd McShay (3:43)

But what if?

And it kind of led me to it. And you look at some of these other teams that are drafting up at the top and you're like, this thing could, I mean, it could get interesting. Like, the Titans, yeah, I guess here we are again. The Buccaneers, 0-4. The Chargers could have a top four pick in the draft. And the Dolphins, as expected.

So let's have a flashmock. Let's do it.

Steve Muench (4:12)

Flashmock. Love them.

Todd McShay (4:14)

Quarter way through the NFL season. We're starting to see the board take shape a little bit. A lot still to happen. But let's go through this thing. I'm not ready to do a full mock draft. We've got plenty of other things. We've got Alabama, Georgia this Saturday. We've got Texas, Oklahoma. We've got a bunch of games. We're in the middle of the season. We're kind of rolling. But I'm willing to stop down for a flashmock. Maybe top five. Let's do it. Maybe the Jets trade in. Maybe we'll get through like seven or eight. Maybe nine picks. I don't know. Let's see. But let's talk about the Texans picking at number one overall. Seems far-fetched. I get it. But right now, if the draft were held, there are five teams with all four losses that are 0-4. Texans, Titans, Buccaneers, Chargers, Dolphins, in that order for the NFL Draft, if it were held today. The Texans, I think I maybe have misrepresented this, so I just want to be clear. At the end of the third year on a rookie contract for a first round player, you have to exercise the fifth year option. I think I've explained it the wrong way, so I just want to clarify.
