Week 1 provided a lot of answers to questions that we had this off season, and now we can start tweaking our rankings as we head into Week 2 Today, Bob Harris and I, we're going to discuss some of the biggest risers and fallers after a crazy opening week of football. And Bob, I think we almost have to start with Patrick Mahomes, who there were a lot of concerns coming into this game, how he'd look coming off the ACL tier, what this new offense would look like, and he looked just like his old self. 29 points in Week 1, right back into the weekly QB1 discussion. Were we all maybe a little bit foolish to try to bet against Patrick Mahomes this off season?

Bob Harris (0:45)

I don't know that we were betting against him. I think we were playing a smart quarterback, some very deep position, lots of target rich environment. You could take your chances. I've been on the Patrick Mahomes bandwagon since the day after he injured his knee. It seemed determined to be where he was. This might be the year, Dave, where everyone, like I talk to beat writers every day throughout the course of the summer. If I had a nickel for every time I've heard, you'd think he was never injured.

When people were discussing players coming off injuries, Patrick Mahomes being one of them, this might be the year that it's actually more true than not. Not everyone is at full speed yet. Malik Nevers and Tucker Kraft would like you to know. But guys like Daniel Jones, the Patrick Mahomes, the only sign that he had been hurt was the brace on his knee. He ran with confidence.

Dave Kluge (1:24)

He quickly shed. He had a big bulky one that he didn't like, so he went down to the really slim sleeve, which you wouldn't even think that he was coming off of a reconstructed knee.

Bob Harris (1:32)

Right. I think the confidence is there. Again, they've redesigned this offense. It's going to run through Kenneth Walker. If you drafted him, rest assured that he was exactly what they wanted with the explosive runs. So he's going to get his turns and maybe the passing attack takes a slight backstep. I'm happy having Patrick Mahomes as my quarterback too, and I would play him any week without any reservation.

Dave Kluge (1:53)

And I'll take it a step further that I would be happy with him as a QB1. Maybe not like the plug and play elite tier, but when I did my rest of season rankings coming out of this week, he settles in his QB11. So right there as a guy that we're thinking about starting every single week, but we've got a lot of other risers and fallers that we are going to be discussing today. Before we get into all those though, give us that thumbs up on YouTube. It means so much to us. This is one of the most important times of year as we are trying to grow this channel. We get a few weeks before people start tuning out around mid season. So please help us grow this channel and give us that like. If you are new here and haven't watched the show before, subscribe because we are bringing you daily content Monday through Friday every single week in season to help you get an edge in your fantasy football leagues. But now we are going to talk about some running backs, Bob. I think one of the biggest risers was in one of the first games before the weekend even started. We saw Kailyn Black really with a surprising role in this San Francisco offense and then we got reports after that Christian McCaffrey was dealing with some cramps so there might be a little asterisk next to that week one usage. But looks like the clear RB2 in San Francisco could potentially have some stand alone value here. This is a day two running back that Kyle Shanahan picked out and he looks like a one cut Shanahan runner. I'm very excited about Kailyn Black in this offense. What are your expectations?

Bob Harris (3:06)

I'm not very excited. I'm realistic though. I mean, it was eight fantasy points in this game and maybe that's the heaviest workload we see him get with a healthy Christian McCaffrey on the field. But also maybe not like I'm not opposed to having they have a lot of faith in him. The San Francisco 49ers, it strikes me, are like NFFC drafters. They get their guy.

They don't care what ADP is. They go get players they want. Deshaun Sribling, Kaelan Black. They've demonstrated that. I think the coaching staff has a lot of input. They trust them. Matt Barrows from the Athletic reported yesterday that the coaching staff, Bobby Turner, the running backs coach and Shanahan, Kyle Shanahan both have a great deal of trust in them. So the most trust they've had in a rookie since Elijah Mitchell was the phrase he used.
