Welcome to I Think You're Overthinking It, episode number 1176 My new comedy special, The Middle Ages, is coming in October. I will be putting that out in October via 800-pound gorilla on their YouTube channel, so that'll be posting in October. I feel like I probably should know the date, but I can't remember it.
I'm a middle-aged parent. Hey, that kind of loops back around, because that is definitely a topic in the comedy special, The Middle Ages. But obviously, we still have a minute before October, so as it gets closer, I will have an exact date. But I'm very excited about that, because I was able to weave music into this, and that's not something I ever thought I would be capable of doing. So I spent the last, you know, handful of years learning guitar and piano, and so it's stand up, and there's some guitar, and there's some piano. And I'm not the best musician in the world by a long shot, but I think I was good enough to put stuff on a comedy special. So that'll be in October. I'll give you more info as that date gets closer. This episode is my pal Rick Beato, whom I adore. Rick has probably the biggest music channel on YouTube. Rick Beato, you've probably seen many or all of his videos, and we became friends, I don't know, four or five years ago. I had Rick on Talking Dead, but I've just been such a huge fan of his work for a long time. And he just, as we talk about in the episode, has this amazing ability to present very high concept music stuff in a really conversational, easy to digest way for people who are music experts and also who aren't music experts. So it is a rare gift that this man has, and I can tell you that he is just as cool.
Everything you see on his channel is exactly what it's like to hang out with him. So go over to his channel, see his amazing work. He's really the guy now. Like he has interviewed so many of the most legendary musicians. He just had Billy Joel on, Sting, Brian May, David Gilmore. I just saw he just posted Todd Rundgren.
He has amazing guitar players, bass players, drummers, pianists, production people, some of the best producers and engineers. So his channel says All Things Music, and it really is All Things Music. Music appreciation, contemporary music, classic music, classical music, breakdowns of music, music theory.
It really is All Things Music. I recorded this episode in June of 2025 I was performing in Atlanta with my buddy Mike Furman, and that's when we recorded this. But I did not have a YouTube channel yet, so I just sat on the episode for over a year. And then I recently, in the last couple months, launched a YouTube channel. Hey, you know, anytime's a good time to start. Why not 2026? And of course, the other podcast episodes live on AMC Plus and AMC's YouTube channel. But since this predated the AMC deal, it sort of fell within my domain, so I was able to post it on my YouTube channel, youtube.com/athardwick.
So that's why Rick's is on my channel and the other video episodes are on AMC's. But it's all good. So we're sort of all cross-promoting.
And I love this episode. And I'm just sorry that I had to sit on it for over a year. So, you know, if you hear stuff that sound more day and date of 2025 or things that we reference that are happening as, quote, now, that was in the summer of 2025 Still, you know, still relevant now, though. I think this is a great episode for anyone who is a fan of Rick. And if you're not, you soon will be. And I also think that there's a lot of great stuff in there for people who are looking to establish themselves as a musician or even any kind of artist in the current social media era. And just for people who have been toying with the idea of like, I really want to pick up an instrument, I don't know if I should, you know, maybe this is your signal to say like, hey, now's the time, do it, you can do it, you know? Rick is so knowledgeable and inspirational. And so it was such a huge honor to have him on. So here we go. I was always hoping he would sort of do like a Comic-Con for music nerds, and he is doing Rick Beato, the Everything Music Experience, which is four days and nights of music, media, guitar, January 14th through 17th, 2027 at the Lowe's Hollywood Hotel in Los Angeles, California. There is an incredible list of guests that, any one of which you would love to see in person, but he's bringing them all together for this incredible four-day music experience in Los Angeles.
