Hey, BMWs, I'm Jami Rice. And of course, I'm here with my very good friend, Katie Ginella and Jonathan, our third co-host. Jonathan's here.
Katie Ginella (0:10)
He's here. As usual. Jonathan, this is Jonathan, just letting you know. And then there's Emily in the back.
Jami Rice (0:15)
Oh no, you know, okay, yes. Okay, we've got to get to, I'm so glad you brought up my plant because I've been really thinking about this. I love that, I love the name Emily because she is a bitch is thirsty. And also, what did he say? Insignificant. Yep.
However, inadequate, insignificant, whatever the word was. The only thing is I always am like afraid of it being bad juju, having an Emily in the room with me, in the room that I make money for my family and have so much fun with you. So then I was like, what can I do? And then I'm still running through names and BMWs, I'm going to need your help, Katie, I need your help. But I'm like, should it be like one out of 10, Melee?
Katie Ginella (1:01)
Maybe it should be a stripper name, like no offense to anyone named this name, but like Tiffany or like, you know, something, yeah, something strippery, but fun and sexy.
Jami Rice (1:12)
Yeah, I like that too. I know, cause I need to put a positive spin on it so it's not all the way bad juju, cause Emily Simpson's bad juju, like bad, bad juju. Like I can't even breathe the same air as her. I feel like I'd be like something would happen to me.
But we're going to think, we're going to think on it. But I like where that's going.
Katie Ginella (1:33)
100%. All right. I want to address something really quickly because I didn't catch this in our recap of Salt Lake City, and I think it needs to be addressed. As anybody that knows me, knows that most summers we are going to Ireland. This is the first summer I didn't go with my family. I just had too much stuff going on. Matt and Kylie went. We have dear friends in Ireland. We go all the time. Matt goes a lot more than I do for work, of course.
There was something said in the last episode of Salt Lake City that a lot of my Irish friends have been reaching out to me about. I'm going to play it, just the audio real quick.
SPEAKER_3 (2:07)
Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_4 (2:08)
This is not how a picture of St. Patrick's Day ended.
SPEAKER_3 (2:11)
Starving, sobbing. This isn't a victim. I'm not trying to make you feel like you said anything wrong. So you're like, I hope this is getting twisted.
Here it comes. It's a dark, cloudy, rainy day in the middle of the potato famine in Ireland right now.
SPEAKER_5 (2:25)
But we're doing our best.
Katie Ginella (2:27)
Okay?
So she mentions the potato famine in Ireland. Something that was Heather Gay. I'm so sorry. When they were on their trip in San Francisco, she equated their conflict to the potato famine in Ireland. And that is just deeply disrespectful to the people of Ireland. So my friend, Emma, who is a very good friend, sent me this thing. And basically she just said that it was, Ireland had enough food, but England was taking the food and starving the people. And Matt went and found his family land from his great-great-grandfather. Apparently his great-great-grandfather fed his family. He didn't eat. He learned to read and write in a hedge school because Catholics weren't allowed to read and write. So he learned it in a secret hedge school, literally in a hedge. He also worked for a farm, saved up enough money, made himself something, bought that farm. I mean, like hero story, right? She said that she wanted to remind me that in 1841, 6.53 million people died in this conflict. That's what I'm going to, in a nice way. But she said the communities were starving, children and women were dying, men were fighting to save their families. It's not a funny thing to use to say, oh, we're having conflict right now. There's women fighting, rich, entitled women. It's the potato famine. Yeah. So a lot of people are really pissed. And I can see that, especially now with what's happening. I don't know if you've been seeing what's happening in the Garvachy Road in Northern Ireland.
It's all over the news right now. The Orange Order, which people, not me, people are equating the Orange Order to sort of like the KKK in the United States. And it's the Protestant Catholic division. They are blocking a road. This road 28 years ago was where people died. Children were slain in their homes. And so it's this conflict still with Ireland. So I think that tensions are high. And for Heather Gay to use this terminology was very, very, very hurtful and disrespectful to Irish.
