Re-Air: What is Energy? And Can Energy Therapy Heal?| Phenomena Podcast

Mayim Bialik (0:04)

Hi, I'm Mayim Bialik.

Jonathan Cohen (0:05)

And I'm Jonathan Cohen.

Mayim Bialik (0:06)

And welcome to our Breakdown. Today, we've got a treat. We're going to share a full episode from our friends over at the Phenomena Podcast.

Jonathan Cohen (0:15)

I was actually recently a guest on this podcast where we discussed energy healing, breakthroughs in science that are actually trying to show how miraculous healing happens.

Mayim Bialik (0:28)

Some of the scientists that Jonathan will be discussing are Dr. Martin Picard. He has spent his career studying mitochondria, the cellular power sources in the body, and how they connect to our inner experience and our consciousness. Also, Dr. Richard Hammerschlag. He's the guy who helped define the modern science of the biofield. And there's also a conversation regarding Dr. Neil Theise. He's the one who helped identify the interstitium, a remarkable recent major discovery of the fluid-filled network that runs through our entire body and explains what previously was understood as a fascia system. Together, these three voices, and you'll hear Jonathan's reflections on them and a bunch of really, really interesting revelations, this is a compelling, eye-opening, deeply human vision of the body and mind, not as a machine, but a dynamic, energetic ecosystem. And we are so honored and thrilled that Jonathan was able to guest on Phenomena. So learn more about this episode and Phenomena Healing by visiting phenomenahealing.com.

We'll see you next time. Best thing that's ever happened to you financially, go.

Martin Picard (1:47)

Easy, sold my car on Carvana, amazing offer. Really? I hit 200 on the Scratcher. Did the Scratcher come to your house and hand you a check?

Mayim Bialik (1:55)

No.

Ivy Ross (1:55)

How many Scratchers did you hit to get that?

Jonathan Cohen (1:57)

I hit a button on carvana.com once.

Meredith Sprengel (2:00)

Okay, that's fair.

Jonathan Cohen (2:01)

It's like the lottery, except you always win.

Martin Picard (2:05)

Not like the lottery at all, actually. Exactly.

Mayim Bialik (2:08)

Inexplicably good.

Martin Picard (2:09)

Offer's worth bragging about.

Meredith Sprengel (2:11)

Sell your car today on Carvana. Pick up VsMayApply.

Mayim Bialik's Breakdown is supported by Helix.

Mayim Bialik (2:17)

We can't tell you how excited we were to hear that Helix wanted to partner with us. I've had my Helix for over five years, Jonathan too, and we've been sleeping great. Jonathan loves his, our kids love their Helix mattresses. All the issues like night sweats, back pain, motion transfer, those things are significantly better. Helix Sleep makes premium mattresses and bedding that are customized to fit your personal needs and conveniently ship to your door. I was so happy with their shipping process. I even ordered my son a mattress for him at college so that he didn't have the frustration of finding one. Helix combines innovative tech with high-quality materials to deliver comfort and support. Helix offers soft, medium and firm mattresses. There are different options for side, stomach and back sleepers. Helix Sleep mattresses have a supportive hybrid design. You can choose to elevate your mattress with premium cooling options. The Helix lineup offers 20 plus unique mattresses to choose from and a variety of mattress toppers. Helix has a sleep solution for just about everyone. Go to helixsleep.com/breakdown for up to 30 percent off your Helix mattress. Picture this.

At a conference in upstate New York in 2025, mitochondria expert Dr. Martin Picard of Columbia University is standing in front of an audience of fellow scientists giving a presentation. On the monitor beside him is a looping video of a single lit candle, its flame flickering against the darkness.

Martin Picard (3:50)

This is a fairly relevant analogy for what we are. What you see here is something that is organic, right?

The structure of the candle is like this waxy carbon-based stuff, which is very similar to your body in many ways, right? You're made of the same stuff of this candle. You have a few more proteins and a few more other things, but mostly it's the same kind of stuff. A flame consumes oxygen and releases CO2, which is exactly what you do when you breathe. You breathe in oxygen, you breathe out CO2, and that happens in your mitochondria. We will talk about this a little bit.

What you see also with this flame is that it's flexible, and it's sensitive. It responds very sensitively to the movement of air around it, but it's also resilient, right? There's a quality about it that's resilient, just like us. We're very sensitive in some ways, but also very resilient and at the same time, it's always in movement. It's dynamic, right? Second by second, it's never the same.
