Mark Duffield (0:47)

Yes, it's time for questions and answers thanks to the pissed idiots. I saw a few pissed idiots out and about in Melbourne on Saturday night. There were some somber ones wearing purple, and there were some very happy ones wearing maroon and gold.

I tried to get away from that.

Paul Heath (1:05)

As much as I could.

Mark Duffield (1:07)

I went right up the other end of town. Yeah. What do we got? Heata, how did you cope with it all?

Paul Heath (1:14)

Probably a bit like the pissed idiots and yelled into the wind, and just moved on from there. But yeah, what a roller coaster ride.

Devastating is the word, I think. But there's also elements of it where you look at things and you go, oh, okay. You know, with Warfy Time and what it's become and everything like that.

Mark Duffield (1:35)

So I think, like, let's clarify Warfy Time, right? Because I think there's just been too much... There was too much bulldust about Warfy Time when the East Coast started going on about it. Warfy Time was used once in the Home and Away season when they were on a surge against Hawthorne. I think it was maybe about eight minutes to go, something like that. It was used once previously in the final series, and there were literally 69 seconds to go against Geelong. And it was basically employed for one cent of bounce. Warfy Time is a crowd activation. That's what it is. It's not a tactic. It's not... I mean, Simon Garlick, I'm guessing, is the guy that does it because he's the guy, you know, basically, it's above everyone else's pay grade.

And because of the debate of what's happened on the weekend, you see why it's above everyone else's pay grade.

Simon Garlick, I would be guessing, he has never said that to me, but I'm guessing that he's the one that does it.

You do it to get crowd involvement. And it will be acknowledged, I think, in the wake of this, that as other teams start planning for Warfy Time, now that they're aware of it, they will develop strategies in terms of how they react to it. But the notion that Brisbane weren't going flat out and then suddenly Warfy Time gets played, oh, let's go flat out. You know, the factor, and before all the post-match rhetoric started about it, from the bulldusters, like Dane Zorko and Kai Lowman, Josh Dunkley said that after that VOS goal, when they got to 17 points up, he said he got them together in the center square and said, we need to get going here. And they needed to get going, not because they played Warfy Time, but because they were three goals down with four minutes to go in a grand final. So, yeah, I just, the event happens, and then the analysts, the poets, and the mythologists get involved, and the whole mythology around the event begins. And that's what's happened here. A great team knew they had to kick at least three goals in four minutes, and they kick four. Yep.

Paul Heath (3:49)

I think the worst thing that ever happened with Warfy Time was that all the movers and shakers of the AFL commentator world were here for that Thursday night when we played Hawthorne. Because they didn't have a clue of what Warfy Time was, or that it had a history that had been around for a couple of years or anything until that night. And then they went back and they kept talking about Warfy Time, Warfy Time, Warfy Time. Why aren't they doing more Warfy Time? So, well, this is why they're not doing more Warfy Time. Because things like this could, you know, then can happen at different points.

Mark Duffield (4:14)

Well, it's going to be, it's not the influence of the thing, it's the interpretation of the thing. And they've turned, they've now turned it into a thing. And yeah, if you're Brisbane and you're three goals down with four minutes to go, you are absolutely, to use a colloquialism, flat knacker for the rest of the, for the rest of the game. You have to be.
