Welcome back to the SENWA studio out here at Optus Stadium on this Monday morning in Perth. There is a lot happening in AFL in Queensland. The Brisbane Lions, the mighty Brisbane Lions, the two Premiership Brisbane Lions are on the rise again. And unfortunately, the Gold Coast Suns are plunging into the abyss. Michael Whiting joins us from afl.com.au. Michael, welcome.
**Michael Whiting** (1:25)
Hey, thanks for having me.
**Mark Duffield** (1:27)
Mate, the Lions are looking ominous, but let's start with what is likely to form the news of the day around the Brisbane Lions. And that is the incident involving Ty Gallop and Mitch Georgiades. What was your take on it?
**Michael Whiting** (1:41)
Oh, great. It was just a pour from Ty. I mean, we're all waiting to see what the sanction will be afternoon, but when it's way, way off the ball and Georgiades has no idea what's coming, like you imagine he's going to get some sort of sanction. You don't want that to be part of the game. We don't see that as part of the game general.
I expect he'd cop a week or two and yeah, and we'll see. But I guess we'll wait and find out from the MRO this afternoon.
**Mark Duffield** (2:08)
If I was to put to you, Michael, that he should get three for that, what would you say?
**Michael Whiting** (2:15)
I'm not going to vehemently argue because it's like it's a poor look and it's a defenseless player. And I think I would say what he's lucky that George Iardis got up, took his free kick and played the game out with no, with seemingly no injuries. So that would be the only reason I would push back on it. But I'm not going to stand here and vehemently argue it because it's something you don't want to see in the game at all, at the top level or at any level. And it's not something we do see very often. So I couldn't push back too hard on that.
**Mark Duffield** (2:46)
I'm fascinated because if you're looking at what represents tough physical play, the Lions almost have the best role model in the AFL, don't they? Like Josh Dunkley just plays tough, hard, every contest, every game, every minute of every game, never does stuff like this, never remonstrates, just gets on with it. And yeah, I just kind of like something like that from Gallop, who's always sort of presented as a pretty promising and pretty diligent young player. It just came so out of the blue for me watching the game.
**Michael Whiting** (3:17)
Well, mate, it came out of the blue for me too. I mean, it's only his second year. He's played 20 or 25 games. So we don't have a big body of work to judge him on, but we haven't seen anything remotely like that. He doesn't get caught up in niggle. He's not involved in back and forth, or he certainly hasn't been across the first little part of his career. So it came out of the blue for me. So I actually had my binoculars on the incident initially thinking, well, that tackles a bit close to the edge. And then I saw what he didn't thought. Wow, that really seems out of character. But once you've done it right, is it out of character? It would appear so, so far.
But you're right, and he's got great role models at that club. And I'm sure they will be talking to him today about that.
