Welcome in to the Wednesday edition of Prop Points here on the SportsBetting Network. I'm Nick Whalen. He's Jeff Erickson. We're here with you from rotawire.com. Jeff, once again, this feels like two straight weeks now of just NFL injury news coming at us. We've had, I believe, the longest training camp in NFL history given the start date, given that the season is starting a week later. I'm serious. I think it actually is the longest training camp. I think most teams, most coaches would tell you right now, let's wrap this thing up. Let's put our key players in bubble wrap. Let's just get to week one, but we still have one more preseason week finishing up this weekend. Let's start with Jamar Chase. This was yet another scare to a major player, both in real life and in fantasy. He went down yesterday. They're calling it a hyper-extended knee. He looked fine, honestly. He looked like he could have come back. He saw some shots of him walking around, walking off that injury, joking with teammates after practice.
What appeared to initially be a potential serious injury for Jamar Chase, doesn't look like anything we'll really have to worry about as week one approaches.
Is Jamar Chase, and I know I'm asking you this as a Bengals fan, Jeff. Is he your wide receiver one in fantasy with a bullet this year?

He is. I've been actually prioritizing the third spot in the draft order, meaning I either get Bijon Gibbs or Chase. I view them on the same plane, and then I get a slightly better pick in the second round when we can do leagues where we have a chance to choose our draft order or put in our preferences like we do in the NFFC. Interesting story about Chase. For the second time in three days, I had an auction that began minutes after a bit major injury. Sunday was Ashton Gentry. Yesterday was the Rotawire Stake League, which had its auction at noon, best Coast time, 3 p.m. Eastern, literally 10 minutes after the injury happened. We're trying to figure this out on the fly. Of course, he's the first player out of the shoot. Then you have to make that tough decision on the fly. I chickened out a little bit there. He got to $41 and a $200 budget. Normally, he'd be a 50-plus player, top player. Top price player in the draft was $56 in Gibbs. That gives you an idea where Chase normally should go. The buyer, Rottelweiss Tim Schuller, got him for $41, a nice $10 discount there.
I think that was appropriate. I mean, at the time, all we had was one of the internet doctors out there said, I think it's this, I think you'll probably be okay, but we didn't have anything from the team at that point in time.
He limped to the sideline and then a trainer came over to him, but it wasn't like, oh, we couldn't put any weight on it, like the phrase that we saw with Gentie, which made it so bad. That's probably why you got him for still a decent price. But hey, we're having to make these decisions with imperfect information. I get that people all the time are saying, don't draft so early, don't draft so early. There's a point to that, but the counterpoint is then you're missing all your bargains early on with guys emerging.
The other counterargument is injuries happen at every point in the season. If you recall two years ago, Nick, people were drafting Christian McCaffrey 1.1 up until the start of the season. It was a miserable year. The Niners downplayed that injury, and then all of a sudden, he didn't play on Monday night. Next thing you know, he's in Europe getting special treatment.
