Blackout.

SPEAKER_4 (0:45)

Hello, listeners. Be advised, the show uses immersive audio. It may seem like sounds are coming from around or behind you.

Please use caution when operating a motor vehicle.

Rami Malek (1:10)

This message is for anyone who's still alive. My name is Simon Itani. Well, I guess you probably already know that. Today is day 156, it's Blackout. And everything has changed.

You think I'd be used to that by now, but how can somebody be used to any of this?

We're currently waiting out the winter near Ipswich, Massachusetts, my wife Karla's family home. You pretty much need your boat to get here, it's far from other people. These days that's priceless, especially when your neighbors can turn into enemies so quickly. Because in this new world, the most precious thing a person has is their trust. It took the absolute collapse of everything to show us that.

Chloe Brooks (2:04)

Simon?

Rami Malek (2:06)

Oh, sorry, did I wake you?

Chloe Brooks (2:07)

No, I was up. The kids are asleep. I figured this was about our only time to have some alone time together.

Still recording those things, huh?

Rami Malek (2:16)

Old habits.

Chloe Brooks (2:18)

Habits aren't so bad. Compulsions, on the other hand.

Rami Malek (2:22)

Looks like we need some more firewood.

Chloe Brooks (2:27)

Forty-one days, Simon. How much longer are we gonna stay here?

Rami Malek (2:31)

Till the storm passes, at least.

Chloe Brooks (2:33)

You know what I mean.

Rami Malek (2:36)

Where would you like us to go? The snow hasn't thawed. It's not like the roads are being plowed.

Chloe Brooks (2:41)

Don't patronize me.

Rami Malek (2:42)

I'm not patronizing you, I'm just relaying facts. It's still winter.

Chloe Brooks (2:45)

Yeah, and when spring comes, there'll be too many people out to move. You'll always find an excuse to stay put.

Rami Malek (2:50)

And how do you know Madeline isn't waiting for us out there?

What if every town we go to has another Madeline there? I'm trying to keep us safe, and it's safe here, Carla.

Chloe Brooks (3:02)

Is that all there is now?

Safe? What about moving forward? We had a plan to go south, to look for signs of life, to find...

Rami Malek (3:13)

I know what the plan was.

Chloe Brooks (3:14)

Was or is?

Listen, after everything this family has been through, I know what I'm asking is hard, but we can't stay in this limbo forever. Yeah, it's safe here, but it's not life.

Rami Malek (3:36)

I know.

Chloe Brooks (3:39)

What was that?

Rami Malek (3:40)

It's just the storm shutters. They've been doing that all night.

Okay, that wasn't the shutters.

Chloe Brooks (3:47)

It's the door.

Rami Malek (3:48)

Carla, wait.

Chloe Brooks (3:49)

I'm not gonna let them keep pounding away out there.

Rami Malek (3:52)

Guys, what's going on? Back in the bedroom is now all of you.

Chloe Brooks (4:07)

Oh my God.

Rami Malek (4:10)

Get off of her.

Chloe Brooks (4:10)

Wait, Simon. I know her. We know her.

Bren Foster.

SPEAKER_4 (4:34)

Blackout season two is presented by Sonos, starring Rami Malek and Aja Naomi King.

Created by Scott Conroy. Written by Jeremy Novik. Directed by Stefanie Abel Horowitz and Jeremy Novik.

Rami Malek (4:54)

So, what, we're just gonna let some stranger stay here?

Chloe Brooks (4:58)

She's not a stranger, Simon.

She was my best friend. Jesus, she was the maid of honor at our wedding.

Rami Malek (5:05)

We haven't seen or heard from her since Hunter was six. Why did she come here?

Of all places, after all this time?

Chloe Brooks (5:13)

I had nowhere else to go.

Aja Naomi King (5:17)

Sorry, didn't mean to eavesdrop.

It's quiet here. Six months ago, I would have killed for some silence. Now it kills me. Every stray sound, like a scream in a cemetery.

Chloe Brooks (5:38)

It's okay, Wren. You're safe now.
