**John Morgan** (0:00)
There's nothing that stops the music like the word billionaire.

**Jack Selby** (0:03)
Do you have a billion in the bank?

**John Morgan** (0:04)
I'm a billionaire. A real one.

**Graham Stephan** (0:08)
What was your business?

**John Morgan** (0:09)
I was one of the largest law firms in North America. I hunt money.
I fish for money.

**SPEAKER_4** (0:15)
Income and wealth disparity in the US are at all time high level.

**John Morgan** (0:20)
Nobody wants to say, look, here's the real reason. I'm a lazy slug.

**Jack Selby** (0:25)
What do most people get wrong about your business?

**John Morgan** (0:28)
I am the most authentic person you're ever going to meet, but I'm very, very street smart and my social IQ is off the charts.

**Graham Stephan** (0:36)
So how did you become a liquid net worth billionaire?

**John Morgan** (0:40)
If work is work, you're. I love to work because I don't lose.
They lose. Sir, I'm sorry. And when somebody with me, I back.

**Graham Stephan** (0:55)
John Morgan, thank you so much for coming on The Iced Coffee Hour.

**John Morgan** (0:58)
Well, it's good to be here and welcome to the Big O.

**Graham Stephan** (1:02)
Thank you. Thanks so much. You say you don't hunt deer, you hunt money. And now you're a confirmed billionaire. I'm curious, are you still hunting money?

**John Morgan** (1:11)
People who hunt deer are still hunting deer, and people who fish are still fishing. So I'm still hunting and fishing, yes.

**Jack Selby** (1:19)
So what's remarkable is that your firm did over $2 billion in revenue last year. What do most people get wrong about your business?

**John Morgan** (1:28)
What people get wrong about my business is that, you know, we're chasing frivolous cases.
We probably take about 7 to 6 percent of the calls that come to us. We don't have the money to chase frivolous cases, because the people we're going up against have unlimited money. So when people say, you know, jackpot justice and frivolous lawsuits and ambulance chasers, they say it because they're trying to have what's called tort reform and to scare the public. I don't have the money or the time to chase frivolous lawsuits. So I think that's the number one thing. What I do for a living is righteous. What I do for a living is somebody has something taken from them. Due to no fault of their own, their health, their income, their enjoyment of life, consortium, you name it. It's been taken from them due to no fault of their own.
And my job is a great job because what I get to do is go back and get back as much as I can that has been taken from them. I think the people who get something wrong about my job will go, if something is taken from you, you want it back. Now, if you get your leg cut off, I can't put your leg back on, but we can get justice and compensation for that. So, not only is what I do good, it's righteous and right.

**Jack Selby** (3:08)
How common are frivolous lawsuits?

**John Morgan** (3:11)
Well, I don't think they're common because the insurance industry, these are smart people. When they get a frivolous lawsuit and it goes to an insurance defense lawyer, they love frivolous lawsuits. You know why? Because they get to bill, bill, bill, bill, and they bill like crazy on frivolous lawsuits. Why? Because they know they're going to win.
If somebody sues somebody with a frivolous lawsuit and the defense lawyer gets it like, no, we're paying nothing. We're paying nothing because who gets to pay the money? The insurance company.
So why? The question is why? Because I'm starting to think about a new ad. You may give me a good new ad idea.

**Jack Selby** (3:54)
I'll take my 10 percent.

**John Morgan** (3:56)
Three. Five. When we say frivolous lawsuits, for there to be frivolous, not lawsuits, frivolous cases, the insurance industry has to go, we're going to give you money for this frivolous lawsuit for nothing. You think they're going to do that? No, and if they don't do that, then they go to a jury of our peers, the same juries who get to put people in the electric chair.
We have the best civil and criminal justice system in the world, so that's what people get wrong.

**Graham Stephan** (4:33)
You've spent over a billion dollars on advertising. What do you understand about human attention that most people don't?

**John Morgan** (4:40)
It's been way more than a billion. I spent $600 million this year.

**Graham Stephan** (4:45)
$600? I heard $500 million this year.
