Oh, all righty, that's going to fall.
My name is Peggy, I'm an alcoholic. Hi, everybody. I'm giving people their stuff back.
There's all kinds of stuff up here. So anyway, my name is Peggy, I am an alcoholic, and it's good to be here. Thank you so much, Rhonda, for asking me, for hosting me. It's a privilege and an honor to be asked to do anything in AA, right?
And people will be like, are you scared? Well, yeah, of course I am. Are you nervous? I'm nervous sitting there, you know what I mean? Like, put me up here, yeah, I'm a little scared. I got a big old ego. Matters to me what you think, you know.
But I'll suit up, show up, and say yes, you know. And I do have to tell one little story. I've been forgetting everything today, all day, you know what I mean? I forgot my pearls, you know. I forgot my perfume. I forgot my thyroid pills, which are a big deal, right? I'm just leaving it all, you know. And then I'm leaving my cup and my phone and all that. Molly's going behind me fixing it, you know. But the thing about Molly, I got it. And I said, I have her permission. I can tell you the story. So a couple of years back, I met Molly and you know, Molly was having a hard time staying sober. Well, I mean, imagine that, you know, we're in AA, she's having a hard time. One day, she texts me, I'm at Kroger's and my son's coming in. I'm busy. You know what I mean? I got shit, or I got stuff to do. And I got stuff going on. And so, I mean, here she is, she's tied one on, she can't get out of bed, and she needs her cat box changed. I'm like, no, that's not my job. I'm not going to come and change her cat box. She's like, well, you're a horrible sponsor.
And I thought I'm a bad sponsor. I had to call my sponsor. You know what I mean? And I'm like 30 something years sober at the time. You know what she said? Read the sponsorship pamphlet. I'm like, what? So you know what I did? I read the sponsorship pamphlet, and it doesn't say cat box.
But I mean, those 12 steps do some stuff, right? Because here she is cleaning up after me. I'm the cat.
And she's sober. I mean, there's no other deal like this in the world. You know what I mean? I mean, a lot of you guys have heard me. I feel guilty talking. I really do. It's like, but truly none of us should even be here. You know, the fact that I can stand here fully clothed. Yeah, right? Here's a little pole. I got my glitter on, my dust.
And I'm going to leave here and I'm going to remember it. You know, I mean, and that's pretty good. I might remember. I don't know. I'm getting old. You know, I'm kind of forgetting stuff. But anyway, was I supposed to read this? That one thing? Okay. All right. Okay. I don't know where it went. Anyway, the top of any of them. Okay. Okay. We know who I am. Through God's grace, the program of Alcoholics Anonymous and Sponsorship, I have been sober since February 17th, 1987 And yeah, right. I should be dead.
I should be dead sober even a couple of times. You know what I mean? Definitely in the bonus rounds.
I grew up, well, I didn't grow up, but I was born in Dayton, Kentucky. You know, a little, little town over there. And back in the day, Dayton, Kentucky had bars and churches everywhere, you know? And that was, that was good. We needed them.
But I'm the youngest of nine kids. And none of this has anything to do with why I'm here, right? But this is just some background info. I mean, it defines some character defects maybe, but other than that. So I had eight brothers and sisters. I'm the youngest. My whole life, I never felt like I fit in. I never did. You know, it seemed like everybody knew what was going on, but not me. There weren't, I mean, our living room was like this crowded. That's a lot of people. You know, one TV, black and white, I was the remote control, and mom sent us outside to play all the time. And you know what, we were Catholic. Not that that's got anything to do with anything, but we went to church a lot, right? Well, once a week, but that's a lot. You know, I mean, year after year, you go back to church, right? Oh my God, and I'm sitting there, and it's hard, you know, and it's about as hot as it isn't here, you know? And I'm like dying. And so all went well for a while. That line is in the book, A Few Places, All Went Well For A While. And that's the story of my life. All went well for a while, right? And then what happened was, I don't know, I remember I had to go to confession. And so when I was sitting in the confessional, like you're seven, right? You have to tell them your sins and stuff. And then they'll give you some penance, and then you're forgiven, right? So I'm going in there and I'm lying. I'm lying in the confessional. I'm making up worse stuff than I ever did. You know, I mean, don't wonder why I don't have any relief. Well, because I'm lying. The inventory is kind of like that too. So here I am, I'm doing that stuff. And the worst thing at the time when I was seven, the worst thing I ever did was play perverted Barbie dolls. You know, I mean, I got a Ken doll, and he did them all. I mean, he just, he did. He did them all. They fought over him. I mean, they take their little, I had a little egg carton beds and they'd throw them. And, you know, you get the little pizza thing for the table, the end table. I mean, we were creative, right?
