Welcome back to Behind the Bastards, a podcast about the very worst people in all of history. And here to talk about, well, here to do a special Reverse Bastards episode where I don't have to research and write about a terrible person. My guest does is Dr. Kaveh Hoda, who has been very kindly teaching us about Dr. Peter Attia.
Dr. Kaveh Hoda (0:28)
Yeah. Attia? I don't know. Actually, it's a good question.
Robert Evans (0:30)
Attia, sorry. Peter Attia.
Dr. Kaveh Hoda (0:32)
Peter, I apologize.
Robert Evans (0:33)
I know that. You said that correctly. I got it wrong because my brain does not hold pronunciations well.
Dr. Kaveh Hoda (0:39)
I might be wrong. Listen, I don't know if I'm saying my own name right, so I can't be certain about anyone else.
So sorry, Peter, if that's the case.
Robert Evans (0:49)
Who's to say?
Dr. Kaveh Hoda (0:56)
Okay. You guys ready to get back into this?
Robert Evans (0:59)
Yeah. Let's do it.
Dr. Kaveh Hoda (1:00)
Okay. When we left off, our hero Peter Attia had left the oppressive group think of medical training.
Robert Evans (1:10)
Finally.
Dr. Kaveh Hoda (1:11)
It was finally. It was only a matter of time. He was pretty upset about not being appreciated for attempting to operate outside the Johns Hopkins protocols.
Robert Evans (1:21)
Being a maverick. A renegade. Yeah. Because that's what you want. He doesn't play by the rules, but he gets results.
Dr. Kaveh Hoda (1:27)
Yeah. You want a rebel doctor. That's what you want.
Robert Evans (1:30)
I love it when my doctor's a rebel.
Dr. Kaveh Hoda (1:33)
Just really outside the box. Getting weird with medicine. Yeah.
Robert Evans (1:37)
That's what you want. A lot of people say smearing poop into an open wound is bad for you, but they're just sheep. I like to get away from the herd. I like to try new things.
Sophie (1:45)
Yeah.
Dr. Kaveh Hoda (1:46)
Get that in there real good.
Robert Evans (1:48)
Can we stop this? Nothing's bolder than sepsis.
Sophie (1:52)
I don't get paid enough for this shit. Can we?
Robert Evans (1:55)
Yeah.
Dr. Kaveh Hoda (1:56)
Well, if you didn't stop me, I might have gotten stuck in that. It is disturbing how easily my brain can just get into that role of the manosphere dude.
Robert Evans (2:08)
It's easy.
Dr. Kaveh Hoda (2:10)
It's fun.
Robert Evans (2:10)
It's fun to joke about.
Dr. Kaveh Hoda (2:11)
Yeah.
Robert Evans (2:13)
But back to Petar.
Dr. Kaveh Hoda (2:15)
So let's get back to him. So he decides to join, leaving the residency, decides to join a consulting firm called McKinsey & Company.
Robert Evans (2:23)
Oh, good. I'm glad they're showing up. That's fun. Yeah.
Dr. Kaveh Hoda (2:26)
Yeah, I was going to ask, have you-
Sophie (2:27)
Real Pete McKinsey years.
Dr. Kaveh Hoda (2:29)
Yeah. Okay.
Robert Evans (2:30)
So they're one of those bloodless consulting. Sorry, you're going to talk about them. Yeah.
Dr. Kaveh Hoda (2:34)
No, no, no. Please, please, please.
Robert Evans (2:36)
They're one of those consulting firms who you bring in to tell here's how many people you should hire to maximize shareholder value and the like, right?
Dr. Kaveh Hoda (2:43)
That is correct. They are a global management consulting firm that advises major corporations, governments, both here and abroad, and institutions on strategy operations.
Robert Evans (2:57)
Some people call them bloodless ghouls, but I don't, because I support actually the bloodless ghoul community. You are valid, you are beautiful, and I love you, bloodless ghouls.
Dr. Kaveh Hoda (3:08)
You are seen. They are one of the most influential, oldest, and maybe controversial consulting firms in the world. Let's talk about them, because he decided to go work for them. I think that says something about a person. Good sign. They're a firm with a history of being criticized for a lot of things, including involvement with the opioid crisis. Have you heard of the opioid crisis?
Robert Evans (3:33)
Oh, man. Yeah, I've had a few myself.
Dr. Kaveh Hoda (3:37)
Robert.
Robert Evans (3:38)
As a bit. As a bit.
Dr. Kaveh Hoda (3:40)
Please say it's a bit. I'm a medical doctor. I'm a professional.
Robert Evans (3:44)
I only do opiates in Mexico, and now I don't do opiates in Mexico anymore because of fucking fentanyl. Man, it ruins so much. You used to be able to just buy opiates off of a pharmacy in Guatemala or something and know that they were just hydrocodone. You could pick it up in the grocery store. It was beautiful.
