Part One: Peter Attia and the Cult of Longevity

Behind the Bastards

October 13, 2026

Dr. Peter Attia is not the worst doctor we've covered, but he may be one of the most influential. This week, Robert is joined by Dr. Kaveh Hoda to learn about the rise of a longevity medicine superstar who would influence the manosphere, the biohacker set, and the "healthspan" crowd.

Welcome back to Behind the Bastards, a podcast that tells you everything you don't know about the very worst people in all of history. And this week, I'm one of the laziest people in all of history because I'm getting a week off of researching and writing a script thanks to my good friend, Dr. Kaveh Hoda, who has come in and wrote, write a script for us. Kaveh, welcome back to the show. Thank you so much.

How are you doing?

Kaveh Hoda (0:31)

It is so nice to see you both. I miss your faces when I don't get to see them.

Robert Evans (0:36)

That's right.

Kaveh Hoda (0:37)

And now I get to see your faces and that makes me happy. And then I get to talk to you. This is now it's my turn. You've done so much.

Robert Evans (0:43)

Yes.

Kaveh Hoda (0:44)

You've done so much to bother people with terrible stories.

Robert Evans (0:47)

Really made them unhappy a lot. Yeah.

Kaveh Hoda (0:49)

It's my turn to give back to you. And I want to-

Sophie (0:52)

Wait, I'm gonna give you a present first. Have you had fiber today, my friends? You should eat more fiber.

Robert Evans (0:59)

Yeah, Kaveh does always say that.

Kaveh Hoda (1:00)

Thank you. Fiber zaddy here.

Sophie (1:01)

You're welcome.

Kaveh Hoda (1:02)

Fiber zaddy. That's what they call me online, Robert. Fiber zaddy.

Robert Evans (1:06)

Yeah.

Kaveh Hoda (1:06)

And I looked it up and it's a good thing, apparently, to be a zaddy. So that's me.

Robert Evans (1:11)

Yeah, no, that's good.

Kaveh Hoda (1:13)

You know, Robert, let me ask you a question. When you envision a doctor, someone trustworthy, someone you feel like you should be listening to, someone with advice you would follow, what do they look like in your mind?

What do you envision? Are they handsome? Are they fit? Are they charismatic? And don't lie to me, Robert. I can tell when you're lying.

Robert Evans (1:37)

Honestly, I picture my old pediatrician, Dr. Sherrod, who was the doctor I had growing up as soon as we moved to the Dallas area. He was a really good, I had a bunch of like weird health issues around my allergies as a kid. And every other doctor we went to was, or every other pediatrician we went to, had a lot of trouble figuring out what to do. And Dr. Sherrod did not. He was a really good doctor, like helped me with my allergy problems as a kid, was just always like, my mom worshiped the guy. He was great. It's probably why I have such a positive opinion about doctors, because I grew up with a really, really good one.

Sophie (2:12)

Must be nice.

Robert Evans (2:13)

Yeah, I think about him.

Kaveh Hoda (2:14)

And Sophie, what about you?

Sophie (2:18)

You know the details of all my medical history, both of you. A little sour on doctors these days.

You know, but I love you and I love my brother and you're both doctors. So there you go.

Kaveh Hoda (2:34)

I'm one of the good ones, Robert. I'm one of the good ones.

Well, you know, here's the thing. You are both doing, I think, the reasonable thing, which is you are using your own memories, your own relationships with people you know and have met, and you know to be good doctors. But I would think, unfortunately, that's not always the case in this country. I think when a lot of people in this country are thinking of a doctor, first of all, they're probably thinking of a male doctor, although most evidence we have would actually suggest you're better off with a female doctor. They've actually looked at that.

Robert Evans (3:14)

Just in general?

Kaveh Hoda (3:16)

Well, for particular, the study showed it was like in patient hospitalizations, but it's certainly not worse. So that was actually kind of, it's funny that this had to be done. But at one point, there had to be a study that said having a female doctor can women be doctors.

And actually, it's probably better. So we'll probably get more of that. We'll probably get more of that in the future too.

Robert Evans (3:40)

I usually prefer, like most of my doctors in an adult have been women. And I usually, I just feel like they have paid more attention to me, I guess. Yeah.

Kaveh Hoda (3:50)

I think that's probably it. You know, the study didn't really specify why. I mean, I'm guessing that's probably it. But I think the truth is, for a lot of people, they're gonna think of this doctor that's like tall and handsome and stately and well put together. Someone they could imagine wearing like a tailored suit on General Hospital or like fitted scrubs on Grey's Anatomy.
