Creativity is the generation of ideas. It's the thinking, imaginatively, whatever. You may be an inventor, you create one of something. But innovation is then taking that idea, or that one, the thing for yourself. It's almost like a very self-centered thing, creativity.

Then turning it outward, and making it make an impact in the world.

Dr. Michael Gervais (0:25)

All right, welcome back, or welcome to the Finding Mastery podcast. I'm Michael Gervais. The idea behind these conversations is to learn, learn from people who are on the path of mastery, who have a rich point of view about it, who have put in the hard yards to understand the nuances, like they've internalized what it means to be in the pursuit and on the path of mastery. I want to take a minute here to announce a really exciting event that we have coming up. As you continue to navigate the challenges and opportunities of 2024, I want to pose a question. What are you doing right now to be great with stress? How are you working with stress on your pursuit towards your most important ambitions and goals? And I just want to get right to the heart of the key elements, one in particular, for what it takes to excel in today's high heat, high stakes world. And this conversation is rich. It's with Krisztina Holly. And she's best known as the creator of the first TEDx, the founding executive director for the Deshpande Center of Technological Innovation at MIT, and the vice provost for innovation and the founding executive director of the Stevens Center for Innovation at USC.

So University of Southern California and Massachusetts Institute of Technology, two powerhouses, and she's at the center of building those centers of innovation at those two universities. Phenomenal insight, phenomenal understanding of what it takes to be at the epicenter and the footprint for both of those universities and building innovation. And how did she get there? She lived it. She was involved in various startups herself and she just has a rich understanding of what it takes to be able to build something, how difficult it is. So we get into the weeds with that. She's also currently an advisor to the Obama Administration and the World Economic Forum.
