**PFT Commenter** (2:34)
Did the Dodgers ruin sports?

**Dan Dakich** (2:36)
Yes.

**PFT Commenter** (2:36)
The Dodgers ruined baseball. Everyone's upset with the Dodgers. Granted, any other team could have put together an offer to trade for Skubal.

**Dan Dakich** (2:44)
Correct, it's not a free agent signing, it's a trade.

**PFT Commenter** (2:46)
It's a trade, so any other team could have done it. Any other team could have afforded to pay Skubal, even if they want to take on his entire salary this season. That was something that I believe just about every team of baseball should be equipped to do. Now, that's in theory.

**Dan Dakich** (3:02)
Yes and no, yeah.

**PFT Commenter** (3:03)
Now, in practice, the team that would be most likely to actually trade for them would be a team that felt like they had an inside track on negotiating an extension with them at the end of this season.
If we do have another season of baseball, this might be the last year of baseball of all time. So, yes, the Dodgers did have a leg up. They do have a lot of deferred money that they can offer in the future.

**Dan Dakich** (3:27)
One billion dollars.

**PFT Commenter** (3:28)
They do have a sweetheart TV deal, which I've tried to understand.

**Dan Dakich** (3:32)
Can't do it.

**PFT Commenter** (3:33)
So many times, can't figure it out.

**Dan Dakich** (3:34)
Can't do it.

**PFT Commenter** (3:35)
It's just easier for me to say that they're cheating.

**Dan Dakich** (3:37)
Yeah. It's, all right, so, we've made this point before. We've talked about this ad nauseum. I do think that it's, yes, the initial reaction is fuck the Dodgers. I thought that right away on Saturday night. Max, actually, like, you know, it's bad when Max side texted me. We were just both lamenting. The Cubs have since made a move in Kevin Gossman. So that, I'm excited about that, but the Dodgers are able to operate from a position of strength that no other team really can right now. And that's because they have not only the money, but they have prospects and they're okay with getting rid of the prospects because they don't need to rely on the prospects for their future success, like a Brewers or a Rays or a small market team that basically, like the Brewers have a ton of really good prospects. They could have made a better offer to the Tigers to get Tarik Skubal. But the Brewers, in order to be successful going forward, have to have cost-controlled prospects get good and become Major League Baseball players and have those guys be really good on a cheaper deal so that they can continue to win and be a competitive team. So it's like the Dodgers, they can trade their prospects. And if whatever doesn't work out, guess what? They can just go get a free agent. Whereas other teams can't do that.
