Nvidia's AI Chips Hit a Wall and Anthropic Discovers J Space

We had a great show and episode yesterday, so be sure you go back and check that out. If you missed it, it was a great kickoff to the week. But we're, of course, we're back today to continue that conversation. And I feel like there's a couple of things that we probably didn't get to yesterday just because we had longer discussions about everything from the meta news about them building the fake child accounts. We talked about that for a while. We also just talked about our we talked a lot about Fable and our experiences. For anybody who has not used Fable but might want to dip their toe, well, you basically, it's not that you just had today, but if you want to use Fable very easily inside something like what I use like Cloud code for desktop or the CLI, you have access to Fable through today, July 7th. Imagine that'd be midnight Pacific or otherwise. You got some hours if you're listening to this live. So if you've always thought, I'm curious what Fable might do, you can go play around a little bit. That doesn't mean Fable is going away. It's still going to be available through API. So it's not like it's going away again for anybody confused with that. It's just where can you access it today as part of your subscription. In other words, I have $100 subscription that I have for Cloud Code. I can use Fable, but it uses the tokens and the limits twice as fast as Opus 4.8. So I did that quite a bit yesterday and tried to maximize where I could using Fable. But you got to be careful with it because it hit the 98 I was good. It showed like 72% use, 72% use, 99% use and immediately started charging me tokens. So before I stop it, I paid like $13 on a process that I was working on. And so you've got to be careful with that, especially if you have like auto renews or anything like that on the budget for your specific Anthropic account, just be careful because it will happily start taking money from you and keep running. At least that's been my experience. Maybe there's a setting.

On the other hand, I read that if you have a session running with Fable 5, as I do in a desktop code, right, a clogged code, that when this limit is reached, this July 7 limit is reached, it'll just end the session, which is kind of abrupt, right? You don't get a chance to say, okay, well, let's wrap this up and so on. So be careful about that as well.

I thought it was going to, I mean, if you do something wrong with it, it downgrades to Opus. Why wouldn't it just, right?

It doesn't do that. It's going to end your session with Fable 5

Yeah. I mean, yesterday, quite a few times I went up and down between the models and tried to do a better job of using the right model at the right time and doing more manual switching. To your point back, it's supposed to do some of that anyway behind the scenes. But I was certainly doing that because, definitely, if you're doing it today, you're just trying to use Fable to use Fable. I mean, definitely go back to 4.8. You'll actually extend the amount of time. It's the same for Fable, but you'll extend the amount you really get the value of if you're not just throwing everything through Fable.
Perhaps if you are doing this out there today and you're like, that's right, I got to jump on my computer. I've been meaning to do this. We totally get it. That's why I'm bringing it up at the top of the show. Because it really is a nice feature.
Whether Anthropic will make it available again at some point in the future, or give free credits like Codex tends to do a lot more often, we'll have to see. Use it while you got it.
