Hi, everybody, it's Jason here. You may have noticed that it is Rubber Soul Re-release Week. The big Rubber Soul box set is in the charts, so we've been putting out our Rubber Soul episodes from 2021 all over again, and this is the third and final episode. The Beatles are right up against the wire. They have to get the album out for December the 3rd. They're pulling all nighters. It's all very exciting and tense. Fun fact, the three episodes that we have done on Rubber Soul that you've listened to hopefully this week are longer than the new Rubber Soul box set. So there you go. We still exist in our nothingisrealpod.com website. And if you go there, you'll get links to the Nothing Is Real Facebook group, which has like over 10,000 people all hanging out and talking about the Beatles. And you can also find out on the website or other social media links and also how to get our bonus episodes. We've got about 150 episodes out there for everyone to enjoy. But if you would like a bonus 50 episodes or you would like to have ad free listening, you can go to nothingisreal.supercast.com. That's where our bonus episodes now live. nothingisreal.supercast.com to support the podcast or not, whatever you want. But all of it is available via nothingisrealpod.com. That will give you all the links that you need to do all those bits and pieces. And, you know, why not just sign up for us? Because, you know, we might be doing things in the future, like the Kinsale Beatles Festival in January 2027 That's coming up. So, ladies and gentlemen, without further ado, here's the third and final part of Rubber Soul.

Welcome to Nothing Is Real, a podcast about the Beatles. Everybody thinks they know the Beatles, but how much do we really know?

My name is Jason Carty.

Steven Cockcroft (1:48)

My name is Steven Cockcroft.

Jason Carty (1:49)

And we are live on tape from Dublin and Belfast. This is the third part of our never-ending look at Rubber Soul. I think we're spending more time on Rubber Soul than the Beatles spent on Rubber Soul, Steven.

Steven Cockcroft (2:00)

I think that we probably are going slightly start crazy.

Jason Carty (2:04)

No, we're totally fine. And you can't get enough Rubber Soul. When we left the story at the end of part two, we were right up until Monday, November the 8th. And the album is due in about 10 days time to be pressed, the pressing plant, because it's due to be in the shops on December the 3rd. So just over three and a bit weeks into the future. But a chunk of it still doesn't exist. As we when we left our heroes, they were re-recording I'm Looking Through You and doing 12 bar blues originals, which is not what the Beatles were meant to be doing.

And there's still other obligations that they have to do. So when we get to Monday, November the 8th, this is a day spent doing their Christmas record and they're doing Think For Yourself. And there's also some general generic Beatles chat getting recorded.

Steven Cockcroft (3:00)

Yes, because in addition to recording an album, doing a TV special, preparing a single, they've got a Christmas record to do as well for the fans.

Jason Carty (3:08)

They do. Don't the fans have enough?

If you look at Lewis's Abbey Road Sessions book, it talks about this Beatles speech thing being recorded as general background noise, and it gets labeled as, do not throw this away. This will be used at some point in the future. This will eventually be issued as what was written on the box, not for the Christmas FlexiDisc, but it does get used eventually, doesn't it?

Steven Cockcroft (3:38)

Yes, it turns up in Yellow Submarine, or a little snippet of them practicing harmonies. Which I think the first time I saw Yellow Submarine, I got all the way through the film without noticing them.

Jason Carty (3:49)

Well, the first time I watched Yellow Submarine, I'd read Lewis' book in advance. I'm like, where's the snippet of harmonies? I was waiting for the snippet of harmonies, and when you hear it, it's when they're in Pepperland, and they're doing a little quick rehearsal.

That's where you get the, there's a little tiny, it's only about one or two seconds snippet of think for yourself harmony. It is blink and you'll miss it. But it's the only original Beatle voices that are actually in the cartoon, is that little snippet of think for yourself, which comes from this tape of general chit chat that was recorded. But it's enough to get think for yourself onto the Yellow Submarine song track.
