Before we get into today's stories, quick personal update. I wrote a full-length novel. It's called Dial Tone, A Modern Salesman's Story. It's for anyone who's quietly wondering if there's more. The e-book is available for pre-order on Amazon right now. The hard copy drops June 12th. Link in the description.
Now, Nio is showing some real momentum with the Es9 already on pace for big numbers this month, fresh ship partnership news and smart financing moves.
Xpeng is dealing with real production wins and robotic setbacks. Hot US jobs, data slammed tech stocks, while AI funding and leadership stories are still heating up. Today is Friday, happy Friday, everyone, June 5th. Let's get into it. I'm Obi and this is Courtside Financial. Let's start with Nio.
One of the reasons a lot of you guys click on the video.
The new Es9 flagship executive SUV that launched just last week on May 27th. It's already on track to hit 10,000 deliveries this month with higher trims facing 16 to 17 week wait list. So, that's serious demand for a vehicle that cost about 73,000 US dollars and is targeting the fluent professional buyer that we talked about yesterday.
Fresh news today, Nio just signed a strategic partnership with chipmaker GigaDevice to co-develop automotive grade chips and next generation electrical slash electronic architectures. The goal? Smarter cockpits, better assisted driving and big cost reductions through standardization. Exactly the kind of vertical integration move that William Lee has been pushing for. On the balance sheet side, battery operator Mirattery, closely tied to Nio's ecosystem, issued another green ABS tranche 1 billion yuan at a record low of 1.72% coupon. Battery assets under management now exceed 51 gigawatt-hours. These moves show that Nio is strengthening its tech stack and securing low-cost capital in a tough competitive environment. This builds on May's record 37,000-plus deliveries and reinforces Nio's edge in the premium segment. Chinese first design, swap infrastructure and now deeper chip and battery innovation. To keep things objective and give you guys a bigger look at the general market, let's take a look at competitor Xpeng. They're scrambling to ramp production on the new GX SUV after top trims hit 35-week delivery weights. Strong demand signal with the CEO personally overseeing the supply chain. On the flip side, Xpeng just lost its robotics product head, a key veteran behind the iron humanoid robot, right as they target mass production by the end of 2026
It highlights how intense the competition is right now, not just in vehicles, but in the race towards embodied AI and robotics. Nio's more measured multi-brand approach versus Xpeng's aggressive bets makes for an interesting contrast. Shifting stateside, the May jobs report came in much hotter than expected. 172,000 jobs added. This crushed near-term rate cut hopes pushed yields higher and triggered a sharp sell-off in growth and tech stocks. NASDAQ took a notable beating with rotation into other sectors. This adds to the digestion that we saw after Broadcom's guidance missed earlier in the week. Healthy pullback after the big AI run or something more. Well, the underlying hyperscaler infrastructure spend remains massive, but macro matters. Watch how next week plays out. In the broader tech and auto space, Supabase just doubled its valuation to 10 billion in only 8 months with a big funding round. Exploding demand for AI-powered developer tools. Former OpenAI CTO Mira Murati stepped back into the spotlight in her first major interview in nearly 18 months talking about her new venture and the future of AI governance. On the auto side, GM is going all in on a new battery cell development center and novel LMR chemistry to bring cheaper EVs to market faster by 2028 Quick space note guys, NASA had to briefly shelter ISS astronauts in a SpaceX crew dragon due to leaks in the Russian module. Another reminder of how critical commercial space capabilities have become. So to close everyone, Nio's executing with Es9 ramp, new chip partnership with GigaDevice and smart battery financing through Mirattery.
Xpeng shows the highs and lows of aggressive competition, hot jobs, data pressures, tech valuations short term, while AI funding, leadership moves, GM battery innovation and SpaceX operations keep the long term innovation story alive. All right guys, we are about to close, but one more reminder, Dial Tone is available for pre-order on Amazon. Link is in the description. It's a novel for everyone who's wondering or quietly wondering if there's more. It's Friday, June 5th. I'm Obi. This is Courtside Financial. Enjoy the weekend. Take care of yourselves and be good to each other. Bye.
